Forums - Let's make a cheap high-power air conditioner for Chairman Meow using stuff he has
If that sounds like a really fun project, that's because it totally is!!
It's 96 degrees here in Orange County (that's 36 for you, Little Irish) and I don't have air conditioning.
I am going to melt soon, so I need to make an air conditioner out of the stuff I have around me.
Here are the supplies:
A stapler
A bottle of wine
Ten Ice Cubes (I can make more!)
Canned Air
Lysol Spray
A half-empty bottle of diet coke
Ok, guys.
Let's make this happen.
I've got post-it notes, too, and some other stuff so if you have an idea and something's missing, just ask if I have it.
So far, I've put the ice cubes in the diet coke.
I'm thinking of wiring it to the stapler and then, like, putting it in the freezer.
And then I'll add a switch somewhere I can flip, and then once I do that, it'll start cooling the room.
I'm going to go put the stapler in my freezer, so I'll update this thread once the whole thing is ready for prime time.

I also have a lighter in my desk.
I can make the flame big or small, but I can't make it cold.
Ok, let's think for a second.
What if I spray it with the canned air?
Let me check this out.

Drink until you can't feel feelings.
Also, cutting yourself will cool you down.
The trick is only losing enough blood so that you get the shivers, but not losing so much that you die.

Usually, around this time of year, Walmart/Home Depot/etc...sells a fairly cheap model or two of window AC unit.
For a long time (in fact my entire childhood) I lived without AC.
But now, as an adult, I refuse.
I would have a personal fund drive.
Usually you can find a unit for around $89 plus tax.
Which will give you at least a cold bedroom.
I would call relatives, I would hit up friends.
Be blunt. Say "I am roasting to death, please, I am accepting any donation towards an AC unit.
Any monetary amount will suffice".
Once you get around $125 that should be enough.
I'll even go one step further.
If you can figure out a way to take paypal, I will give you money.
Call it the Chairman Meow Sweaty Ball Fund or something.
I am sure some of my fellow employed posters would slip you a five or ten or even 20.
Just be cool about it once you've hit the required amount.
PS.
I know you aren't really asking for money, but as a hater of non AC environments, I can not help but empathize.

Do you have a spray bottle?
You can fill that with water and spray yourself down, which will wick your body heat into the room faster.
Then drink the iced diet coke.

Or cut out the middle man and spray yourself down with the Diet Coke.
Honestly, though.
This works. Combined with fan on high you feel like you have AC.
The room will still be hot but you won't

I have a very nice, roughly $20 fan I got from CVS that's about four feet tall.
It looks sort of like a white pole and it's very quiet and oscillates.
You can even set a timer on it, which I like to do when I go to sleep.
It's great. I'll often leave it on all night.

WTF is canned air?
Have you tried huffing the Lysol?

Rub your body with the lighter fluid and then blow the canned air at yourself - the lighter fluid will evaporate rapidly pulling heat from your body
this will feel good for about two minutes

Aerosols of compressed air for blowing dust out of keyboards and stuff like that
