Liza Minnelli Returns - SameSame Forums

I love the way Liza tells a story, so brilliant!

I would love to go and see her

2 sleeps til Liza - yay!

2 sleeps???? wow, I can't wait!

How did it creep up so fast!

Can't wait to see liza!

She's awesome... love that she's in the new SATC film.

Too much...

Have you seen her in Arrested Development?

Hilarious

Good times and bum times, she's seen them all, and my dear, thank fuck she's still here!

I concur. I love this crazy mixed up broad. So what if she is incontinent of urine.

Did you see at a press conference yesterday someone actually called her Lisa!

She actually looks more coherent that she has in years. She must have had a fresh batch of stem cells.

Damn I thought I'd treat myself for my birthday and both nights sold out oh well maybe when she returns if I am still here

Watched an interview with her on tele last night.

Not sure if the stem cells took last time round.

I've heard she cancels shows all the time. Namely by you- when you lived in the States brother of mine. Is this something Liza does alot of?

Although for a slightly different take on Liza, you could always check this out

Same Same Media Player YouTube - !!LIZA IN AUSTRALIA 2009!!

I'd love to see a doctor's report on Liza's physical condition. The voice is quavery.

And is she capable of a conversation without a rehearsed script?

And how much of the show is performed sitting down? But sad to say no decent movie roles in 40 years.

The film of Cabaret was so influential in the lifestyle of many of my friends.

So many of them were determined to be as 'divinely decadent' as Sally Bowles.

And the phrase 'Two Ladies!' was uttered in sadness so many times after a night of failed passion.

I wonder if she's worked out she's in Australia yet? Poor little muffin.

Liza is so grateful, full of joy & humility, just to be here. I noticed Liza became tetchy with Tracey Grimshaw after she tried to sell the 'You're such a survivor, what's the hardest part of being the daughter of a tragic icon?' routine on her, telling Tracy that all people go through struggles, going so far as to say that she can walk, talk, feed herself & could buy the newspaper (Liza said at least she has money to buy the paper everyday). Puts things in perspective. I love her humour. 'Liza;

Will you be coming back to Sydney again?' 'I'm not gonna die anytime time soon, is that what you expect me to do?' Chutzpah personified.

In the 3 years I lived in the States (this was the mid 90's) I booked for 3 different "come back tours" as everyone of them was cancelled due to "ill health".

So, yes, I am a bit sceptical about her ability to perform.

Having said that though, at least she survived the plan trip over, so we may be in luck.

I think in the mid-90s she was a mess. This time around, she managed just over a month on Broadway (22 shows) and only missed 1 show due to illness.

She's just done a week's worth of show in Vegas as well.

If someone gets to see the show would they be kind enough to leave some comments?

I'll be there tonight - yay!

OMG OMG OMG Does that constitute a review? Not sure what else to say at this point.

Amazing!

So CeeJay review please ? still have to pull the finger out and go to Ent Centre to see her.

Well, I didn't want to get too excited in case she was a semi-trainwreck (although that in itself would have been an experience to talk about for years to come), but she surpassed every expectation.

The crowd went wild from the moments the band started its first notes, and I lost count of the number of standing ovations she got throughout the night. It's hard to pick out highlights - so many showstoppers - Maybe The Time, Cabaret (of course now there's quite a pause after the 'that's what comes from too much pills and liquor' line, and she finishes with 'when I go, I WON'T go like Elsie', New York New York, My Mammy, Liza with a 'Z' - everything you'd expect, except maybe Ring Them Bells.

And she didn't speak-sing - she belted! The tribute to her mother (singing the same medley Judy sang at her Palace shows in the early 50s, that Liza witnessed as a 5 year old) was touching, especially as it in itself was a tribute to the amaing performers who had performed on that same stage over the years. I think most of my companions were a blubbering mess at some point during the show.

A gentlemen a few seats down from me was literally sobbing as she introduced Charles Aznavour's 'What Makes A Man a Man'.

It's amazing to hear a true gay icon actually making a stand and acknowledging the injustices that have faced the gay communities over the years.

It was also a it of a head spin seeing the woman who (between her and her mother) have inspired countless drag queens, herself portraying a drag queen. The encore was something else again with her tribute to Peter Allen - incredibly moving, but I won't spoil it for anyone who's going tonight or during the tour! I can't believe I even through twice about going.

It was one of the most amazing concerts I've ever been to.

CeeJay was there any mention or tribute to Michael Jackson as they had a close bond?

Hilarious LB!
