Buells destined to be classic motorcycles? - Sportbikes.net

Do you guys think that a Buell will be worth a lot of money in the future?

Or will they be regular motorcycles and nobody will care?

Well, how far into the future are you looking?

The best ones didn't have Harley engines so that probably hurts their chances to be collection material but there will always be a few people who think they're cool bikes, I'm sure.

I'm thinking somewhere in the 20 year+ range.

Should we buy up all the available Buells, put them away in our garages, and never ride them so we can make a hefty profit in the future?

Or will that be a waste of time and a financial loss?

I don't think they will be something that everyone want's.

I plan on buying one then riding it until the wheels fall off.

The 2010 Blast will be the most collectible longterm. KeS

I don't think it is very likely that they will become highly-sought-after valuable collectors items.

Bikes that achieve that status generally have two things: (a) they are beautiful to behold, and (b) they are historically significant for some reason, often highly sought after or exclusive when new. Criterion (a) pretty much doesn't apply to any Buell.

They've always been a bit, umm ...

, charisma-challenged. Criterion (b) remains to be seen.

If eventually other major manufacturers pick up more of his ideas for sportbikes -- underbike exhaust and more mass centralization are being pursued by others;

If extreme steering geometry, fuel-in-frame, belt drive, perimeter braking, etc.

Become more widespread, then they may be seen as historically significant. But I'm going to guess that, no, buying a barnful will not result in the funding of a lavish retirement. PhilB

Eh, no; but they should provide thrills to the people who like them for years to come.

Most of them will still be sitting in a showroom for the next 20 years so I doubt they will be worth anything!

Buells will be about as classic as Yugos are

I dont think it will be a classic, more like a pain in the ass to find parts.

I love buells, but... The parts will become collectors' items before the bikes do.

Suzukis could never carry fuel in the frame.

You'd have a massive fire when the frame inevitably snaps in half.

Atleast the gas leak would warn you when the weld is about to break.

This I don't think they quiet captured the imagination of the public the way they needed to to become a true classic, They will become valuable as bikes of the same era also become valuable but they'll never be sought after like a vincent or similar machine.

Not if it's a series of microfractures in the material.
