Roys Reborn? 2010 may see the Roys FC re-enter SFA - BigFooty
Following on from the outstanding success, on and off the field, of the Fitzroy FC in the real world, Roys FC will be making a bid to emerge from recess and again field a side in the SFA, commencing with the 2010 season.
The Gorillas were a more than competitive participant in the Association from 2003 to 2007, claiming one flag and fielding one Mobbenfuhrer Medallist ("Broken").
But at the end of the 2007 season, when the AGM was held, there just weren't enough bums on seats to warrant another season.
Administration levels were the hardest hit, and Echuca (gesundheit) import and staid key position player Fred, taking on all administrative roles in a supervirtualhuman episode of staving off the inevitable, was left leading the charge for the last couple of seasons, with little or no support, and generally far shorter sentences.
After 2007, the last few stalwarts stopped responding to his calls for interest, and he was forced to let the club slide into recess.
Fred's services were put to new use at the head of the Mod Squad FC, which has replaced the Roys in the last two seasons, with limited success.
But now, with the return to the reality fray of the actual Fitzroy FC (albeit at Amateur level), past chairman and league representative Mobbenfuhrer now feels the time is ripe to re-enter the Sweet FA battlefield.
"We just couldn't field a team, eventually." A visibly shaken, unshaven and unwashed Mobbs muttered.
I was called away, others dropped out of the spotlight, and the focus just faded.
Poor Fred, he was originally only filling in gaps to help the club field a team, and suddenly he was holding the bag.
Mobbenfuhrer believes there is a fertile hunting ground for new Roys recruits.
"We have a whole Ammos team out there now, U19s and juniors, and many of them appear around the traps.
We should be able to snaffle some of those." He also noted that external recruits may be tapped again: "JakeThePeg was a handy acquisition for a season or two.
He dropped out of the big league, but is still in contact and I think he has a few seasons left in him ...
More than Bradshaw OR Fevola, anyway."
Because the recruiting territory is somewhat restricted compared to that of current AFL team fan bases, and far more than those who do not limit application according to supporters of one particular team, the old stager Mobbenfuhrer has placed a large deal of import on starting the ball rolling early.
"We have to work hard to find the numbers.
They're out there, they're quality, but they need chasing down.
I thought I'd get an early start.
I dunno even when the 2010 season is due to commence, I don't know when the recruiting period is set to begin or end, but there's no time like the present.
Enough time for me to butter up my targets and get the bribes out."
The Roys FC is openly advertising for any Roys fans, current, past or in-between, to consider coming down for a run with the Gorillas.
"Unlike some clubs, that poach via PM and are happy to undermine existing player-club relationships for their own ends, we (I) here at Roys FC wish to be transparent about our recruiting.
If I see someone at another club that we (I)wish to pursue, I will advise the club as well as the player about our (my) interest.
Its only fair."
More information on the Roys FC fantasy team can be found on a thread at the Fitzroy sub-forum.

I wouldn't mind seeing such a historic team back in the competition.

Relegate the Demons to the RFFL and bring the Roys back!

Would be great to have them back in the Competition However that would mean a bye correct?
Could that mean the return of the Sim team

Great to hear.
Still no match for us or the Hawks though.

Great to see the Roys make a comeback and the SFA grow just a little bit more, hopefully this might bring even more posters into the league ey

Would be good to see them back but Mobbenfuher (as i think he stated) would need to recruit at least 15 retired or new players which would be difficult.
I can see the majority of the team coming from the Fitzory FC board on this site (hopefully at least 15) playing for a Fitzory fantacy club then perhaps poach 7 or 8 players already in the league which would be a difficult task.
Personally i believe your back is pinned againist a brick wall ATM Mobbenfuher but if you can gain some momentum then Fitzroy FC are a chance for the SFA

Haha na. But I am very interested in this proposal.
How it will work, who it will involve.
If they poach a few league superstars it would be a great aquisition.

Any rumours on players they may pick up?

Can't see it happening from a personal point of view.
Alberton Swamprats came back into the comp after a hiatus and they lasted only a season.
This proposal would need to have the backing of a number of potential players as well as having a strong posting base.
Otherwise it's just a pipe dream.
