Ted talk on Project Orion - this guy's father was on the project. Shows classified documents that were supposed to be destroyed : science

Nice.

And here's a video compilation of Project Orion launch tests . Boom!

This one is really good too

I use the "save" button.

That way all my links are nice and orderly in my Saved subreddit.

Did not know about that, thank you.

Anyone else notice his pronunciation of "trajectories" as "tragic-torries?"

I find it kind of hard to believe that this stuff is that secret, if he's seriously going to get up and give a talk in front of a huge audience and the whole frakkin internet.

Heh, knew they were talking about the Dysons before even clicking. Project Orion was a great concept but I really doubt it would've worked.

The ship design was massive and the forces it would've had to deal with were ridiculous.

You might've been able to make the thing stable with today's computarized guidance and attitude control systems but still...

The material stress on the system is such a titanic undertaking for engineers. Maybe in space...

But an atmospheric launch system of that magnitude?

Man, I doubt it.

In other news, the guy's father was Freeman Dyson....
