Ask MusicReddit: Where Do You Go To Download Your Music? : Music

All things musical

So, I'm not cool enough to get a what.cd or waffles invite (nudge nudge wink wink), so I use torrents for my more mainstream indie stuff & I use Soulseek for most of my obscure stuff.

It can be painfully slow, but it's the only place where I know I can find that Bartlebees LP I used to jam way back in the day.

Same here. I'll nudge and wink if it'll help, though.

Just download them off the net. Google search artist +rapidshare or blogspot (most music download blogs are on blogspot). This works pretty well, even for obscure stuff.

See here for example: http://roadbikebandit.blogspot.com/2008/12/bartlebees-upload.html Most files are hosted on rapidshare, which is a pain in the ass, but it's good enough for the occasional download. EDIT: Also, if you have a dynamic IP you can get a reconnect script for your router to circumvent rapidshare's time restriction.

Newsgroups.

What.cd son!

How the hell do you maintain a ratio there?

Every time I download something, no one's leeching, as soon as the download's finished, I can't get any upload stats.

Download new torrents that seem like they'll be popular.

Download things that are freeleach.

Fill requests. EDIT: Also, seed everything you ever download forever.

Whew, I've got my weekend cut out for me then.... Thanks for the tip, this is why reddit is my homepage.

I got an invite from a friend in a class of mine.

I've only been only for a few weeks now (although I was a long time Oinker) and the best way to maintain your ratio is to SEED EVERYTHING.

Seriously. The only reason that I have a good ratio is because I always have my comp on and seeding (it helps to run Linux here so you hardly ever need to restart).

Further, do some searches for stuff that you have that may not be already on there and upload it (but make sure it's good quality and not a transcode, or you will get shit on).

That's the quickest way to win.

How do you get an invite?

Amazon.com

Http://www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/site/music-plus/ For any singles I come across that might be out there.

Otherwise I don't really bother.

I'll torrent an occasional CD here and there from Piratebay but usually I'll hear a song I like and just grab that one.

Thanks so much for that, mate.

I found a song there that I've been scouring the web for hardcore with no luck.

Soulseek

God, I wish I could find a half way decent Mac version of soulseek.

It's a crapchute.

1.) Nice Try RIAA. 2.) Google.
