Humanity changed from a hunter/gatherer society to an agricultural society and from an agricultural society to and industrial society. Now we will have to go in the other direction. : worldnews

Back to an agricultural society?

Many of us will probably have to grow our own food.

Without oil, most of today's industry cannot be maintained.

Localization vice globalization. May be for the best. Slow down the pace of life. The individual may "count for more" rather than being a mere one among millions. Modern technology will assist in fending off the isolation the pioneers experienced. Local institutions will gain importance and will be able to respond quicker to local needs. Maybe the self-created importance of our elite class that has usurped many aspects of American life will be less important, not as easily able to skim off the wealth the labor of the masses creates. Could result in a decrease in the size and power of the federal government while local government that is more responsive and quicker/easier to change/control grows larger to fill the void left by a HUGE unresponsive easier-controlled-by-an-elite-class federal government. I can envision many positives with a reversion to a more localized lifestyle. Less economic impact from a few huge corporate entities as smaller locally-owned firms are created. More opportunities for the common folk. A leveling of the economic arena with an increase in "average" income earners and a decrease in the number of the ultra-rich. Higher energy (transportation) costs will assist the change. An increase in smaller localized manufacturing. Adaptations will be needed. Increased efficiencies in transportation using less petrochemicals will occur. Changes in the infrastructure needed but those changes will create jobs for the common folk. I predict a resurgence in the "Made in USA" label. More repair shops to fix what is broke vice toss it away and buy anew. Perhaps an increase in product quality with built-in design to allow repair. A benefit there is less garbage, more recycling. Not having to compete with as many HUGE firms may assist in the common folks having a chance at innovating to meet local conditions. Though entrepreuership may not lead one to becoming a billionaire or more, at the local level, industry, working smart and innovating will still allow a comfortable life style. Bring it on The USA is ready for a change. Oh, another plus a quieter world, less noise.

A !!!! The intellectuals of the world will revel in that aspect!!!
