I have no problem spending extra $$$ for quality food.
I would rather cut my spending on stuff like gas, cigarettes, etc...
all that junk food can only lead to more doctor bills.

Meh. I've been working at it for years.
I do better.
I usually see somewhere between 50% - 70% savings but the thing is, I don't buy crap "food." Those are the numbers I see when I'm leaving the store with meat, dairy, breads, veggies.
Canned soup is about as far as I go in buying "prepared foods." Don't buy much of it either, preferring to make my own.
I plan my meals around what meats and veggies are on sale.
We eat very, very well on $50 / person / week.
