Hello again. How do I get my fitness mojo back? : Fitness

Until about a year ago I was pretty good at maintaining my fitness.

70 mile bike rides, 200+ push ups a day, etc.

Now I have no mojo.

I'll be glad if I go for a walk 3 times per week.

It's showing for sure.

Maybe you should check for deficiencies, such iron, b12, zinc.

If you used to have the motivation to exercise, and I imagine you enjoyed it, there might by a physiological basis to your lack of current motivation.

If this is the case you can remedy it with supplements (also shots in the case of b12) and longer term dietary changes. Also, until you get your mojo back, it is not only important that you eat nutritious foods but also that you avoid consuming things that can contribute to deficiencies, such as refined sugar, caffeine, cigarettes (though I doubt you smoke). Another thing might be to get into the habit of moving a bit again by doing activities that are totally new, to freshen it up.

You could take a lindy hop or a salsa class, it won't make you fit but it will get you out and might give you the impulse to then do other activities as well. I'm no fitness expert, so maybe none of this is relevant, but I hope you find something that works for you!

Well, you are up nice and early, perhaps you should be asking yourself what you are going to do today?

Bike ride? A run?

Some yoga?

You're referring to your motivation? Think of something that you'd like to try that happens to require a decent level of fitness (or it would at least help), and aim for that.

Exercise to meet the goal.

Things like rock or wall climbing, scuba, a duathlon/triathlon, a hiking vacation, et cetera. Personally I just enjoy exercising and recognize how much better I feel mentally and physically.

Grab a gym buddy and go the gym. I usually end up going to the gym with friends, so it's harder to back out of it. So, for you, get a friend and go bike riding - have a friend spot you for push ups, etc.

Having a partner to be working out with is a great method of motivation.

Have a friend spot you for push ups Haha, that's funny on a few levels.

Is he laying right over you? And what's he spotting you from?

Staying down?

I bet I could do 100 spotted push-ups

Maybe that's the problem.

I don't have a workout buddy right now.

My standard workout buddy now lives 50 miles away.

I need a replacement buddy.

It's really simple.

Get off the computer right now, go the gym even if it's only for 30 minutes.

Tomorrow, go to the gym even if it's only for 30 minutes.

The day after tomorrow, go to the gym for one hour.

Take the 4th day off.

Next day get back into the gym.... going is half the battle

Going is half the battle Which is funny, because, for me, it's never been a battle.

It's fun. Not going and getting rest is half the battle.

3-5 weeks is the barrier.

If you're out of the routine, it can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks to get back that feeling of "I must go to the gym today." Up until you feel that way, you just have to ignore your excuses and force yourself to go. "I had a long day at work..." "I'm hungry and I need to go have dinner instead" "I got up really early this morning" "I've gone regularly for a week, so skipping a day won't hurt.." If it's a training day, go train.

That's the rule, no excuses.

Caffeine.

Too much, too little?

More.

Some idiot complained that a citation was needed, then apparently deleted his comment (?) Anyone who doesn't think caffeine provides get-up-and-go needs to pound two depthcharges.

There's your stinking citation.

Well, I don't exercise as much as I used to, but I take caffeine... It does get me off my ass. AND HERE'S SOME KIND OF CITATION!

Adrenal fatigue?

Find a physical culture type hobby that you enjoy.

Its hard to just do fitness for the sake of fitness (unless you give it a name i.e.

Crossfit ) Rock climbing, Competitive bike riding, half marathons, martial arts, parkour, gymnastics, triathlons, bodybuilding, Bar sports etc.

Having a goal to look forward to and train towards is the best motivation I can think of.

For me, it's all about setting goals.

Set easy ones at first, but eventually start setting ridiculous goals.

I am pretty harsh on myself, so I won't let myself slip if I have a strong goal in my head.

Deciding where I want to be, before I do something helps me out a lot.
