Ask /r/fitness: I want to start a new workout, but I lack the equipment it calls for. Anybody know comparable exercises, or a good site? : Fitness

This is a reddit for fitness tips and exercises.

If you're looking to get in better shape check here and post anything you find, please.

I don't have a cable/pulldown bar, or a leg press, but this workout calls for: * Cable triceps pushdown * Calf raise (with leg press platform) * Lat pulldown * Machine leg press * Cable seated low row Anybody know some good comparable exercises I can do with a straight bar, olympic bench, dumbells, and a curl bar?

I don't have the money to get more equipment anytime soon, but I'd like to get this workout going.

Thanks.

You wont find an exact match for those exercises, but here is an attempt: machine leg press -->

Squats with straight bar calf raise -->

Just hold some heavy weight (dumbbells or bar) in your hands and do some calf raises, you can put your toes on a book or something to raise them up a little cable triceps pushdown -->

Skull crushers on the bench holding the curl bar http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Triceps/BBLyingTriExtSC.html lat pull down -->

Wide grip pull-ups

Totally agree with everything there. Also, for seated cable low row you could substitute bent over rows . For your calf raises, just use a stair as your platform. All of the replacements in the parent comment and this comment are not only equal substitutions, I would say they are BETTER than the ones listed in the post because all of the recommended substitutions will provide more opportunity to engage your stabilizers and core.

In a similar vein, why not narrow grip pressups or bench press for the triceps instead of skull crushers?

Also, you can do reverse squats in place of leg presses.

You just hold the bar behind you, it works out your quads a ton.

I have a friend that SWEARS by this: http://www.rosstraining.com/nevergymless.html I intend to give it a try once I settle in to my new place.

Everyone always has a friend that swears by stuff when it requires buying.

Pfft, it's the internet, nothing REQUIRES buying. Wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more.

Try this Gymnast training + shit made from stuff you might have around the house Late edit: As long as you follow up with strength training, it's fine, just remember that most of the body weight exercises are high impact.

But it's amazing, I've been working out for a good year and my body felt shattered trying to do a handstand and maintain it. Variations on pushups, see if you can get a pull up bar, you can do a lot of different things on it (back levers, etc).

You can do it one better if you find some weight plates and put it in a backpack.

Bent over rows. Squats.

Close hands grip Bench.

Cable seated row?

Leg press? Oh my.

Cable triceps pushdown Pushups Calf raise (with leg press platform) Stairs, pose running (run on the balls of your feet) Lat pulldown Pullups (find a telephone pole with a stabilizing arm at the right height) Machine leg press Air squats Cable seated low row Lie flat on your stomach and arch your back.

Supplement with dumbell curls

Try CrossFit . Everyday they have a new work out posted.

If you can complete it, you're a bad ass.

It's fun, challenging, and takes minimal equipment.

Try searching for prison workout - it is mainly burpee.
