Diy lens on diy projector - AVS Forum

Ok I don't have 2 much patience but I've built a 1080p pj but it has a 100mm wise lens can I buy a diy kit to make a lens or can a fellow Aussie build me one I don't have 2k to spend on one. Ps my screen will be 1.4m x 3.2 or there abouts for inputs I'll be useing a ps3 and a probox pvr with dual tuners

I can't build you a lens, but would love some more details about your DIY projector!

Gros21, are you in the U.S.?

If so, where did you get the Probox PVR from?

I've been searching online for a while trying to find where I can buy one.

Sorry for being off topic.

Nah im in australia i paid $325 au for it which is close enough to 325 us. DIY pj is basiclyly a lcd with the backlight removed and replaced with a metal hallide and a few lens to focus it again uses a 15.4" lcd with pixelview controller screen specs are 1.

WUXGA, 1920*1200 res, higher than 1080p standard fo HDTV (1920*1080) 2.

600:1 contrast and 16ms response time (the heat in a diy pj lowers this alot has to do with the liquid cystals becomming thinner) ,the best on in all 15.4" WUXGA panels 3.

Size is 344.5max(W) x 222.5max (H) x 6.5max(D) mm i then go thru a 220mm and 550mm lens to my triplet which has a 440mm focal lenght this is a quad element one so it has a focus on it. mmm yes i would love 1 made they are 2k here, u cant make a fancy remote one but i dare say i could make a remote swing arm for it

You can probably build your own easily enough, especially if you built a projector... Check this thread below for how I did mine starting on that page of the thread. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...=889863&page=6 You can order the prisms from surplusshed.com if they will fit your light path, they ship internationally.

If not you can order some trophy prisms which come in bigger sizes from online vendors.

I'm not sure if the popular websites for those ship internationally or not but maybe you can find a supplier down under .

Best of luck and lets see some pics of your proj as well as screen shots.

Getting to aus is no dramma there is mobs that specialise in buying stuff from usa and then send it to me.

Shop usa comes 2 mind. do u know thease venders sites?

Also how do i know what size/angles i need? will i need a curved screen?

You will have to do what many refer to as a paper test.

If you hold a piece of white paper about 6-8 from the light beam of where your projector is coming from this will tell you the the size of the image coming from the second prism in a DIY lens, and thus the size the prisms would need to be.

With the surplus shed prisms you can try to go to about 4-5 inches because the lens housing can go pratically up against the projectors light path exit.

The 1st prism could be placed close to the edge of the housing and since they are small (you can see from my pics how small the housing ends up being compared to a PS3 game case) they don't need much room. A curved screen is useful when using an anamorphic lens because it corrects pincushion introduced by the lens.

This is reduced by your throw distance though.

The further back, the less pincushion.

Alternatively you can zoom the pincushion effect off to your screens border and you'd be none the wiser.

Mmm ive had a look but they all seem pretty smal my lens specs a\re 100mm lens, for a 3m image i have a 3.5m throw what would u guys reccomend?

Have you checked into the Aussiemorphic A-lens that is made in your country by AVS member CAVX.

Maybe his product can meet your needs. John

Yea his lens are $2000 way over budget
