Soy, Egg and Nut allergy... Recipes? - In The Kitchen - DiaperSwappers.com

Ugh. So of course Soy is in everything.

But I have a few questions.

I read somewhere that Soybean Oil isn't usually a problem, is this true? My son was diagnosed with these allergies a couple months ago - he is 14 mo.

We did a RAST test because he got ahold of Bella's egg omlete ( egg and cheese) and broke out in a rash, and also when he was younger, projectile vomited Soy Formula ( YUCK!) The egg allergy is both white and yolks.

I also found something that said often, people who are allergic to the yolks can have issues with chicken or turkey meat as well.

Anyone have any experience with this? I have been trying to find a good resource out there for recipes and such, but a lot of the websites cost money to join, so I really would like some reccomendations before I do anything like that.

I know I can find a lot of info just by googling it. Also- does anyone have a good bread recipe?

I have made plain bread in my bread machine, but it generally is ...

Dry. And it seems like EVERY bread out there has soy in it!!

Argh! And is there a rule of thumb for how to substitute egg in baking, or for things like waffles and pancakes? And it seems no matter HOW hard I try and watch what I feed him, he still sometimes gets rashes when he eats, or mysterious hives randomly.

I know the RAST test doesn't cover everything..

Could it just be that the food might not have everything listed on the box?

We have really cut out prepackaged foods, but still really like Mac and Cheese, and some canned fruits... Wow..

Lots of questions Hehe.

My LO is very sensititve to soy and dairy and we have just cut them out - which means we make everything from scratch .

DH is sensitive to grains, so even though we tried some flour substitues, they weren't good enough to be worth him getting sick too, so we just eat meat and veggies and fruit basically.

It's actually easier to not fool with alternatives for baking IMO...

Good luck whatever you do.

Thanks. I kinda wonder if he has other allergies or sensitivities to grains or something else.

I don't think the RAST test covers those.

I think we would have to go into an allergist for that.

But We have been keeping a food journal, so maybe we have to pay more attention. Anyone else?

*hugs* I am sorry! DS2 has a milk, egg, soy, wheat, corn, peanut, tree nut allergy. It's hard AND VERY expensive! I haven't tried making my own bread, we buy the $7 loaf for him!

Which stinks because he wants what EVERYone else has! Like the PP, we do a lot of meat, fruit and veggies. Have you seen an allergist yet?

We have not seen an allergist at this point, but since he keeps getting hives when he eats, I think I am going to request a referral.

Obv. something else is bothering him. I suppose I should really start introducing more meat to him, since he hasn't been a huge fan of it.

We really don't do more than chicken here- and hot dogs ( yuck).

Sometimes sausage, but I don't trust that it doesn't have lots of additives and such. What is your kids fav meat?

This website has a great collection of allergen-free recipes: http://www.eatingwithfoodallergies.com/ The sunbutter cookies are great.

Good luck!
