Weight Watchers & IC diet - ICN - Interstitial cystitis information & support

Been on Weight Watchers for 3-1/2 weeks now.

I've lost 4.2 pounds so far, though I don't think I'll lose any weight this week - it was a super stressful week & I overate every day. But, so far, it's working well with the IC diet & I'm really happy with the group leader.

She's super-positive & had great suggestions when I explained the IC diet to her.... I think I need to treat my weight gain (with the WW program) as another symptom of the IC, rather than feeling ashamed & not wanting to deal with it. Anyone else done WW successfully with the IC diet?

Any tips?

Good on you kadi!!

I was thinking of giving weight watchers ago, but cause of the ic diet and all i felt limited.

I might give it a go.

I think it's an excellent program.

I've been thinking about going back on the program, but it's a 45 minute drive for me. Donna

Kadi... I think that is a great way to think about the weight gain that a lot of us experience due to taking certain medications...Just another symptom of IC that we have to get our hands around and work to take control of by finding what helps lessen or stop it.

I used to do WW, but feel so overwhelmed with the limitations of the IC diet that I haven't tried it since being diagnosed.

I just started using a website where I can track my foods and exercise (for free) and I'm hoping to have some success.

At the suggestion of my WW group leader, I took the food list booklet home & highlighted everything I can eat--I'm pleased to see there's quite a lot!

(And that's even though my IC is super diet sensitive and I have some major food allergies to fish, shellfish, treenuts, peanuts, avocado, legumes) It hasn't been hard so far.

I've been on it one month & have lost 5.2 pounds.

Not bad... I plan to be on it through the next school year to see if I can break the teacher pattern of healthy summer weight loss , but then each school year regaining the weight plus more .. I didn't think I'd like the group meetings, but I really do!

The leader isn't focusing so much on diet foods as on healthy foods, most of which I can eat (like whole grains, proteins, etc.) and she's very positive and helpful.

I hated seeing dieticians, which I tried before this, because they got so freaked out by the IC limits they upset me more.

This has been the opposite of that experience.

I'm pretty lucky I think to have found a group leader I like.

I had already decided on 3 meetings I'd try if I wasn't happy with the group, but didn't need to try the other two.

I'll be starting weight watchers after I get back from my florida vacation on July 2nd. Ever since I was diagnosed I gained 5 - 10 pounds and it really sucks lol. I hope I have some success like you guys are talking about. Congrats to all of you that have had success

Weight watchers is a point system, i think it would be similar to counting your calories, i think your better off getting a calorie counter book and watch your intake in food by that way, count your calories day by day.

Actually, I've done that & this is easier.

Basic principles set the Weight Watchers point system & it's less tedious than looking everything up.

This is the first weight loss program I've had success with since I got IC.

I think the group meetings are helping, the support is excellent, the group leader is very positive & encouraging, and the accountability of a weigh-in each week is working well for me as well. So far, I'm pretty happy with how it's going

I am so glad WW is working for you.

WW was the one diet that seemed to work for my sister.

I think the group element and accountability Kadi mentioned are huge factors. Way to go Kadi!

5.2 lbs is real progress! Vicki

-9.4 pounds now!!

Only 26 more to go...

(yikes)

You can do it
