Al Jazeera International (aji) Coming Soon To Ubi World Tv - DTV Forum Australia
Al Jazeera International (AJI) coming soon to UBI WORLD TV
From tomorrow (Wednesday October 18) a promo of AJI will commence on CH02
AJI launches worldwide on Nov 1, and will be part of the UBI English service and available in the WTV Basic and Plus packages.
AJI is not exclusive to UBI, but we are currently the only platform known to have taken it in Australia.
AJI is the worlds first English-language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East.
The channel will provide both a regional voice and a global perspective to a potential world audience of over one billion English speakers
News management will rotate around broadcasting centres in Doha, London, Washington, D.C.
And Kuala Lumpur "following the sun".
AJI will broadcast factual programming including news features and analysis, documentaries, live debates, current affairs, business and sport, It will not have the usual Anglo-American worldview.

Al Jazeera sets English launch date
Wednesday 01 November 2006, 8:11 Makka Time, 5:11 GMT
Al Jazeera is to launch its English-language news and current affairs channel on November 15.
The Al Jazeera Network announced on Tuesday that the channel, part of the network and the sister channel to Al Jazeera, will begin broadcasting from its Doha headquarters at 1200 GMT on that day.
The Al Jazeera English-language website is being relaunched at the same time.
The announcement of the channel's forthcoming launch coincides with the 10-year anniversary of Al Jazeera, the network's Arabic-language channel.
Wadah Khanfar, director-general of Al Jazeera Network, said: "We are extremely proud of what Al Jazeera has achieved over the past ten years.
"Al Jazeera today is an international media organisation.
Al Jazeera English will build on the pioneering spirit of Al Jazeera and will carry our media model ...
To the entire world.
"The launching of the English channel offers the chance to reach out to a new audience that is used to hearing the name of Al Jazeera without being able to watch it or to understand its language.
"The new channel will provide the same ground-breaking news and impartial and balanced journalism to the English-speaking world."
Agenda-setting
The English channel will have broadcast centres in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.
The website aljazeera.net/english will showcase the English channel's agenda-setting editorial mission and provide constantly updated coverage of news events from around the world, along with in-depth analysis and background.
It will provide RSS feeds, live streams and downloadable clips from the channel, as well as interactive discussions and polling.
Programme and presenter information as well as weather reports, live business data and sport will also be available.

Interesting they were still showing the trailer when I left the Middle East 19th November ( Orbit Satellite).
Wonder how anti-western it will be.
Al jazeera Arabic Service used to show US F18's taking off from an Aircraft Carrier then cut to Arab women and children cowering terrified in a corner.
Played every hour as intro to the news.
This is from Doha Qatar which houses a huge US forward strike base.
I see they have poached a large number of BBC and CNN journos for the International Service.

Mwd,
they flocking to AJ!
And more to come.
No film of those flights you mention but plenty of pics of US planes dropping food aid.
AJ stream loud and clear and free on Optus C1.
Probably the highest quality news stream on C1 and because Foxtel not paying for it.
Apparently FoxTel has rejected carrying it because 'the satellite is on full capacity'.
Go figure!!

Foxtel have used a myriad of reasons why they dont want to take it - another classic was that AJI wants too much cash for it

Talking of Al Jazeera I noticed they launched their Al Jazeera English service in November last year and now looking at Lyngsat it appears that it is listed under the Foxtel suite of channels
see http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/foxtel.html
And of course there is no word from Foxtel as to if they are going to let us view it.
Could this be political?
Or are they saving it up to release at a later date and of course push up the subscription by yet another dollar?

Actually, your fine posting about it here.
Foxtel won't add it as they say there is no space available.
The channel is there as Al Jazeera is paying for the transponder access.
See the posts above and also posts at Austech.info.

David,
Foxy not the slightest bit interested in it..
If you want to get it you'll need another Sat Rcvr plugged into your existing foxtel dish (If you're on Foxtel Sat)...
i'd have to say it's definetly work the effort as it's better than ruperts news network and the drivel put forward as news on our commercial networks ..
Even my wife has actually sat and watched a few of times which is very rare for her...
