hackerthreads.org • View topic - WinXP Hang's at 100%, hardware problem?

For months i've encountered this problem.

I've disabled numerous services , and have only one program within startup.

Nod32 Antvirius requires very little system usage and/or memory, approximatly: 13, 656 Kilobytes of memory. Windows XP is animation/graphic based as we all may know.

So I went to 'My Computer(s)' properties, 'advanced' tab, and ajusted my preformance to it's very best.

In an average of pc usage I use 132MB to 200.

I'm curently running Windows XP [VLK].

And heres a listing of my hardware: Hardware - Code: Select all http://www.geocities.com/haxorsbox/Report.htm Benchmarks - Code: Select all http://www.geocities.com/haxorsbox/Report2.htm

What is hanging @ 100%?

CPU usage? If so, what process?

If i was you, id get used to this happening alot

It's not a virus nor a worm which most people asume, I believe it has something to do with my Video card: ATI Radeon 9600 Professional [RETIAL] Last motherboard I had, ASUS A7V8X, was pretty much fried by the freaking thing.

Maybe DDoS? Do you have a net connection?

Um...ok.... I can't help you without info.

Good luck

I checked both the links in the original post.

I know what hardware you have.

You say it hangs up at 100%.

My question is "what hangs up at 100%?" If the CPU cycles are hitting 100% you should be able to see which process is doing it in task manager.

I run Radeons in a few of my machines but haven't had any problems except my 9800 all in wonder pro needing a 550 watt power supply or it wouldn't boot.

I'f you're certain it's the video card have you downloaded the latest catalyst drivers?

I have the latest Catalyst Drivers, and didn't help.

There are numerous applications and/or anything it crashes on.

When I look in my preformance tab while opening an application, my cpu usage jumps up dramatically from 2% to atleast 68%.

Perhaps it's my CPU heat considering I have one fan and a full server tower.

My motherboards heat is 97 °F, even though it should be 36 °F, as for my CPU 95 °F which should be 35 °C, and my Aux is 108 °F, which should be 42 °C.

Can that be a problem? - By the way I appreciate your patients/help.. POST UPDATED: ADDED another fan heres the ranges: Motherboard : 99 °F CPU: 100 °F Aux: 97 °F

The CPU spiking to open a program is fairly normal.

I was hoping for a process that crept up to 100% and stayed there.

Microsoft has had problems with a few of it's programs and processes doing that(Word and spoolsv).

Those temps are fine.

You should rule out hardware first by running >MEMTEST86<

. You can download a bootable CD ISO or a package to make a bootable floppy.

If it passes that I'd suggest updating your BIOS and chipset drivers.

Thanks bro I'll give this a try

Jesus christ get a mini airconditioner or a liquid cooling system~ at those temps your boards will fry in no time -- how hot is your room?

Homer: "Look! That kid's got bossoms!!

Who's got a wet towel!?

Hehehehe {SNAP} come're ya little butterball!" Uter: "Don't...

Make me run!... I'm...

Full of chocolate!"

At Fahrenheit, those temperatures are normal and fine.

The key to everything is to give everything up, but not feel any loss.

Well this problem is closed.

It was too an Denial of Service Attack.

Thanks for letting us know.

No thank you for your tremendous effort

Finally found out which "Virus" was distributing the DoS Expliot on "explore.exe" http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/bloo ...

Hmm, the funny thing was that my post about the possibility of it being a DDoS was ignored Without practice one cannot prove;

Hmm, the funny thing was that my post about the possibility of it being a DDoS was ignored  Maybe it wasn't...he did figure it out after all BTW good call
