Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (v1.41) and save it to your desktop. alternate download link 1 alternate download link 2 MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine.

If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you.

Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

Make sure you are connected to the Internet.

Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.

When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Then click Finish .

MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.

Press the OK button to close that box and continue.

If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

On the Scanner tab: Make sure the " Perform Quick Scan " option is selected.

Then click on the Scan button.

If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.

The scan will begin and " Scan in progress " will show at the top.

It may take some time to complete so please be patient.

When the scan is finished, a message box will say " The scan completed successfully.

Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found ".

Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen: Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.

Make sure that everything is checked , and click Remove Selected .

When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.

The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply.

Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Exit MBAM when done.

Note : If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process.

If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. -- If Malwarebytes Anti-Malware results in any error messages, please refer to Fixes for common problems and Error Codes .

Some issues with errors can be related to malware infection but others are not. Please download Rooter and save to your desktop. alternate download link Double-click on Rooter.exe to start the tool.

If using Vista, right-click and Run as Administrator...

Click the Scan button to begin.

Once the scan is complete, Notepad will open with a report named Rooter_#.txt (where # is the number assigned to the report).

A folder will be created at the %systemdrive% (usually, C:\Rooter$) where the log will be saved.

Rooter will automatically close.

If it doesn't, just press the Close button.

Copy and paste the contents of Rooter_#.txt in your next reply.

Important : Before performing an ARK scan it is recommended to do the following to ensure more accurate results and avoid common issues that may cause false detections.

Disconnect from the Internet or physically unplug you Internet cable connection.

Clean out your temporary files .

Close all open programs, scheduling/updating tasks and background processes that might activate during the scan including the screensaver.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus and real-time anti-spyware protection.

After starting the scan, do not use the computer until the scan has completed.

When finished, re-enable your anti-virus/anti-malware (or reboot) and then you can reconnect to the Internet. Please follow these instructions for installing and creating a log with HijackThis if not already installed.

When you have done that, post the log in your next reply. Reports/logs to post in your next reply: * MBAM report log * Rooter_#.txt * A fresh HijackThis log

Thanks, Quietman.

Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus and any anti-malware real-time protection programs you are using so they will not interfere with the entries we will be fixing in HijackThis.

Click this link to see a list of such programs and how to disable them. Run HijackThis, and press " Scan ." When the scan is complete place a check mark next to the following entries (if they are still present): (Please be careful and do not check any other boxes) CODE O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {9FB3908C-6565-4CB0-95F8-E9F85258723C} - (no file) xxx After checking these items CLOSE ALL open windows except HijackThis and click " Fix Checked " to remove the entries you checked.

A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items.

Please choose YES .

Once it has fixed them, close HijackThis and reboot your computer normally. Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download link Save any unsaved work.

TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!

Double-click on TFC.exe to run it.

If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.

Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.

Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately.

If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean. Now rescan again with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but this time perform a Full Scan in normal mode and check all items found for removal.

Don't forgot to check for database definition updates through the program's interface ( preferable method ) before scanning and to reboot afterwards.

Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

When done, click the Logs tab and copy/paste the contents of the new report in your next reply. Note: The following directories were all created same date/time.

Can you check to see what, if any, files they contain? IMPORTANT NOTE : One or more of the identified infections was a backdoor Trojan .

Backdoor Trojans , Botnets , and IRCBots are very dangerous because they compromise system integrity by making changes that allow it to by used by the attacker for malicious purposes.

They can disable your anti-virus and security tools to prevent detection and removal .

Remote attackers use backdoors as a means of accessing and taking control of a computer that bypasses security mechanisms.

This type of exploit allows them to steal sensitive information like passwords, personal and financial data which is send back to the hacker.

Read Danger: Remote Access Trojans . If your computer was used for online banking, has credit card information or other sensitive data on it, all passwords should be changed immediately to include those used for banking, email, eBay, paypal and online forums.

You should consider them to be compromised and change each password using a clean computer, not the infected one.

If not, an attacker may get the new passwords and transaction information.

If using a router , you need to reset it with a strong logon/password so the malware cannot gain control again.

Banking and credit card institutions should be notified of the possible security breach.

Because your computer was compromised please read: How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

What Should I Do If I've Become A Victim Of Identity Theft?

Identity Theft Victims Guide - What to do Although the infection was identified and may be removed, your PC has likely been compromised and there is no way to be sure the computer can ever be trusted again.

It is dangerous and incorrect to assume the computer is secure even if the malware appears to have been removed.

In some instances an infection may have caused so much damage to your system that it cannot be completely cleaned or repaired.

The malware may leave so many remnants behind that security tools cannot find them.

Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to wipe the drive clean, reformat and reinstall the OS.

Please read: When should I re-format?

How should I reinstall?

Help: I Got Hacked.

Now What Do I Do?

Where to draw the line?

When to recommend a format and reinstall?

Quietman - all the folders you ask about each contain a single file, name OGAAddin.dll.mui.

OGAAddin.dll is related to Windows Office Genuine Advantage to validate a user's copy of Microsoft Office.

Mui is a MultiLanguage Resource File . Quote: Contains resources used by Windows 2000/XP MultiLanguage Version;

Allows the Windows interface to be changed to different languages;

Additional language packs can be installed using the Muisetup.exe application. How is your computer running now?

Are there any more reports/alerts, signs of infection or issues with your browser?

The computer's running fine now, no signs of infection.

Thanks again.

You're welcome. If there are no more problems or signs of infection, you should Create a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one .

Some of the malware you picked up could have been backed up, renamed and saved in System Restore .

Since this is a protected directory your tools cannot access to delete these files, they sometimes can reinfect your system if you accidentally use an old restore point.

Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to " roll-back " to a clean working state. The easiest and safest way to do this is : Go to Start >

Programs > Accessories >

System Tools and click " System Restore ".

Choose the radio button marked " Create a Restore Point " on the first screen then click " Next ".

Give the R.P. a name, then click " Create ".

The new point will be stamped with the current date and time.

Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.

Then use Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recently created Restore Point.

Go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr Click " Ok ".

Disk Cleanup will scan your files for several minutes, then open.

Click the " More Options " tab, then click the " Clean up " button under System Restore.

Click Ok. You will be prompted with " Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?

" Click Yes , then click Ok.

Click Yes again when prompted with " Are you sure you want to perform these actions?

" Disk Cleanup will remove the files and close automatically.

• Keep Windows and Internet Explorer current with all critical updates from Microsoft which will patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

If you're not sure how to do this, see Microsoft Update helps keep your computer current . • Avoid gaming sites , porn sites , pirated software , cracking tools , keygens , and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs (i.e.

Limewire, eMule, uTorrent).

They are a security risk which can make your computer susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections , remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft.

Malicious worms , backdoor Trojans IRCBots , and rootkits spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming, porn and underground sites.

Users visiting such pages may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans, and spyware .

Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users.

The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid these types of web sites and not use any P2P applications.

P2P Software User Advisories Risks of File-Sharing Technology • Keeping Autorun enabled on USB (pen, thumb, jump) and other removable drives has become a significant security risk due to the increasing number of malware variants that can infect them and transfer the infection to your computer.

To learn more about this risk, please read: What security risks are associated with USB drives?

. USB-Based Malware Attacks .

When is AUTORUN.INF really an AUTORUN.INF?

. Many security experts recommend you disable Autorun asap as a method of prevention.

Microsoft recommends doing the same .

Quote: ...Disabling Autorun functionality can help protect customers from attack vectors that involve the execution of arbitrary code by Autorun when inserting a CD-ROM device, USB device, network shares, or other media containing a file system with an Autorun.inf file...

Microsoft Security Advisory (967940): Update for Windows Autorun • Finally, if you need to replace your anti-virus, firewall or need a reliable anti-malware scanner please refer to: Bleeping Computer's Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps Bleeping Computer's List of Virus & Malware Resources I recommend taking advantage of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Protection Module which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware.

This technology monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer .

Enabling the Protection Module feature requires reqistration and purchase of a license key that includes free lifetime upgrades and support.

After activation, Malwarebytes can be set to update itself and schedule scans automatically on a daily basis.

The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs.
