CONFUSED NEWBIE... NEEDS HELP ON PLDT WeRoam SET-UP

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here....I need help as I've been reading thru your threads and I get confused w/ some terminologies.

I'm going back to Manila on Feb and thinking of giving up our existing pldt dsl to avail of pldtweroam...

I have a wifi-enabled laptop w/ pcmcia slot.

It also has an integrated mobile broadband antenna to be mobile broadband ready.

So my question is, what is the exact set-up of PLDTweroam?

Do they still attach something to my laptop?

Do I use the slot for the simcard?

Also, I was hoping that with a wi-fi service, my desktop can also avail of the wifi service (I'll just buy a USB wifi)...is this possible?

Can all the computers at home avail of the wi-fi or I have to pay additional money for each unit?

And can my mobile phone (wifi-enabled) also avail of this wifi service?

And why is it that you can use the wifi service anywhere....I mean...

Isnt it just confined to the place where PLDT set it up (like our house for example)?

Sorry, too many questions....I'm really so confused....I'm already doing research before I go home coz I've experienced the benefit of wifi here that I want to try it out there in Manila once I get home. Thanks in advance to those who'll help out.

Hi mate if you can get a hand of a 3g phone, in my opinion, here are my options which you might consider: a.

It is almost available for both smart and globe wireless internet.

For smart 3g, its P20/hr.

No contract what so ever, a prepaid phone will do. b.

2nd is to get an account from smart/globe wireless internet or whatever they call it.

I think there is a lock in period and have to pay for the wireless card.

It's more expenssive, well if you can afford it , then why not. c.

If you are planning to stay long, then a DSL connection is more prefered since you will be using a couple of desktop units. d.

Which i would not recomend is smart wifi.

Yes, you can share it with your desktop unit and wireless enabled laptop provided you have a wireless router, you'll be surprissed how amazing it is, lols.

Its the cheapest.

Only in the Philippines lols! I have a, c and d except the 2nd option which I can not afford. not to forget, there are plenty of hotspot here, which are very expensive to recommend Hope it help.

Thank u so much Sir Rollie....

I'll try to weigh the options you gave me.

I have a 3g fone (02 exec), problem is, I guess I still have to configure it to work on 3g services of either globe or smart...

And I doubt if they have a set configuration for my fone ....

This was my problem with my previous fone (e680), I cant use the internet bec nobody from Globe knows how to configure my wap Anyway, thank you soooo much for our house I guess I'll just stick with dsl and I'll just buy a router.

Thanks!

Keep your existing dsl and buy a wireless router na lang for your laptop, and other wifi enabled device... ang alam ko di pa masyado maganda ang wireless internet dito sa atin eh...

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your suggestions and opinions @dyoddyowel - that's what i actually did and i'm now happy with my set-up.

When i got back to manila, i found out that it's expensive to avail of wifi svcs from those big companies....

So anyway, i just decided to buy a wireless router (w/c i had difficulty configuring so i hired a tech)....

I'm now able to connect my laptop and wifi-enabled phone to it. THANK YOU GUYS for everything!
