Advice Sought about temporary housing, moving to Crossville (Knoxville, Lake Tansi: real estate, apartments) - Tennessee (TN) - City-Data Forum

I have a little predicament.

I have been unemployed for almost a year.

I used to work in Animal Control, Animal Rescue and as a State Animal Inspector in a NW state.

While working these jobs, I had my own home office as most towns up here don't provide one for you when you work for them.

I have also worked as an office manager for a small construction company, small satellite offices for Computer companies, a Web Development company and a Biometics company. Since the market tanked, I lost my job in all three of the towns that I worked for.

(bidget cuts.) and I have been looking unsuccessfully for employment for almost a year now.

Because I have been unemployed for so long, my savings are practically gone and I am in threat of losing my house.

I have found someone who wants to rent my house and I'd like to move down south.

I have found some property in Crossville, TN that I really like and (so far) research has shown that what I want to do there would be accepted, needed and profitable. My prediciment: I don't have a place to go between moving out of my house up north and actually acquiring a place (Hopefully the place in Crossville.) in Tenn....or wherever I end up.

I have a Dodge pick-up, club cab/long bed.

IF I got a cap/shell for it, I'd be able to travel safely with my pets (5 small/med dogs, 3 tropical birds and possibly two cats being in Animal Control and Animal Rescue, accumulating pets is kind of an occupational hazard.) I have toying with the idea of just packing up what I need and what the pets need in the truck and heading that way.

I'll vary back and forth between staying in my truck at night and staying at a cheap hotel.

Until I can secure a perm/temp to perm place to stay with my pets. Does anyone have any suggestions as to low-cost places to stay that are safe and pet friendly?

Or places that I can, at least shower and brush my teeth should I end up staying in my truck a night or two?

Is there a YMCA or someplace like that that I can join (which I would probably do anyway.) to shower and brush etc until I can get settled?

How about low-cost week long rentals?

Or barter for work suggestions? As I said, I have a heavy background in small animal care, some livestock care and I'm pretty experienced with horses.

I rode 3-Day eventers for a living in 1981, 1982, 1983 in the mid-west and some in the deep south.

I have my "B" rating in Pony Club, although I know a lot of what I learned has changed since I got that rating in 1982 or 1983.

But I still have a lot of knowledge and ability and would be willing to trade some barn work or other work for a place to stay for a short (hopefully) while with my pets. Thanks much in advance

What about seasonal campsite rentals that allow pets? At least that way you'd have somewhat of a home base while you scope out the situation.

Check out Lycos Classifieds you will have to search out from Knoxville... http://www.crossville-chamber.com/ open and go to members list.

Their are Apartments~Home Management ~ Real Estate has listing... And then the News Paper ~ Glade Sun ~ Lake Tansi ~ http://www.crossville-chronicle.com/ classified section of each.

Throw a tent in the back of the truck and head to Cumberland Mountain State Park. TN State Parks: Cumberland Mountain State Park Call first to make sure it's OK to bring the pets.

They're usually allowed in state parks. Or check Craigslist for a cheap cap.

That would be easier on the pets. At the very least, you can get a shower at the park.
