samples - inthemix Forums

Hey anyone know any good sites for some/lots of free samples, royalty free?

Preferably hip-hop samples but beggars cant be chooser!! Maybe just any good sample sites (non free) for music production.... Cheers Trash

Great for sound effects. www.ljudo.com

I have a substantial slab of samples from occasionally picking up a Future Music magazine ...

Without fail these have a CD stuck on the front with demos and at least a couple of folders with various samples ..

Heck sometimes there's even 2 CDs. the rest i use are pulled from my record collection

Go to yo local record store or even op shop and pull some breaks then some sound effects and then maybe a bassline and some loops and you iz set probably.

Hip-hop is all BOUT SAMPLIN FROM TEH REcords!

Just do a timbaland and steal everything from other people

Quote: : just do a timbaland and steal everything from other people Well thats what free-sample sites are all about arent they?? Lazy fuckers who want to whip out some more empty souless shite just like all the other pop-stars

Hiphop is a bout crate diggin...

So put your nose into old dusty records and pay respect t the guys who started it.

If no recordstore is near or you dont have the money, have a look online and learn about all the breaks that have been used by Premier, Pete Rock, Dilla, Madlib...

Then dig deeper and find stuff nobody found.

That's what hiphop is about...

To get started: links to lots of legal loop sites: http://www.stonewashed.net/loops.html links to lots of legal sfx sites: http://www.stonewashed.net/sfx.html happy hunting!

Future music or computer music are highly reccomended.

The quality of there samples they provide with the mag has gone up in recent years.

On some of their DVDs you can get up 5000 samples..

Which is a lot to fck around with.

Whoa !!!

I think a vein in my forehead just popped.

^^^ And to think of the money I've spent on CD's over the years.... Speaking of which, JB Hi FI in Elizabeth street (Mel) had a small rack of sfx and atmosphere CD's for about $20 last time I looked.

Picked up some whacky cartoon FX CD's there.

Wow thanx for the thread

Quote: : Here you go!!! MUSIC SAMPLES (beats etc.) etc etc i thought that list was big ...

Till i found this one here .... it's so damn big i cant even post it because it exceeds the character limit ...

I shit you not

Here's a list I compiled in 2003 http://forum.midiaddict.com/viewtopic.php?t=31429 I definitely agree with the crate digging though.

I stopped doing it for ages but i'm right back into it now after having worked with Chris Carter while in London.

We plundered his sample collection during our collab and came up with some absolute gems!

It's all about NOT looking for funk records, that's all i'm saying.

^^ yeah I have just re--arranged the music room so the i have one turntable and a mixer to record it thru sorta next to me, planning on digging for samples as i have a descent record collection there waiting to be plundered i am hoping having it closer to me will inspire me to actually do it!

^^^ my decks are always near by to put down bits n pieces.

I'll let a track play looped a few times and just start picking out and mixing records with it and sometimes i might stumble upon something that takes my fancy ...

One day i might even record my own mastabutory hand movements on my records ...

Need a new x-fader/mixer 1st

These samples i can use when DJing?

Because i wouldnt mind trying out samples while i DJ.

Also i would love to get my hands on a GOOD break beat that is just repeated for 30 or so seconds, just that simple kick beat, that i can place over top of normal 4/4 kick house or electro songs for a spice up.

Breaks records ..

DJ tools there's tonnes out there with all manner of beats and breaks as well as all the classic samples and generally weird sounds to fuk with ...

From dub to hip hop to new school breaks to drum n bass even Finger Lickin put one out ...

I grabbed 2 copies of course ;P

^^ Don't own a turntable mate. I am sure SOMEONE on this LOVELY forum would be able to host a breakbeat loop for me out of pure love, because at the moment i can only get just kick samples and stuff

Make your own.

^^ Yeah i was thinking that also man.

I have a illegal copy of ableton on my PC, yes you all want to slap me right now, but i don't use to for any purposes at all just fooled around on it, still don't understand it.

Even if i did go to use it, i wouldnt, doesnt feel right, feels cheap and dodgey like its going to fall apart on me. Anyway yeah i was thinking of making my own but i don't know how to like record it or save it or whatever i did those tutorial things on it to learn stuff about music and that, should get in to it.

Cheers for that! Ill figure it out!

Sweet... i like to dig online, at vinnies...

In yr crate... whatever

As already said, for me its all about diggin'. It can become an unhealthy obsession, if your into it, there really is nothing like it. If your after hip hop samples, go out and find the unheard ones ^_^

Quote: : As already said, for me its all about diggin'. It can become an unhealthy obsession, if your into it, there really is nothing like it. If your after hip hop samples, go out and find the unheard ones ^_^ but how many elusive breaks are there left, and how many other people have picked up that super rare break/ record/ allan hackshaw library record?? Im with you man, I dig lots and can be a bit collector nerdy sometimes but...

A good portion of the old undiscovered has been well..

Discovered. Get creative with whatever ya got or can get your hands on.

Nah man ... there's soooo many records out there.

If you think every break's been discovered stop looking in the funk and disco and jazz sections. When it comes to sampling breaks though ...

I sometimes wonder, wouldn't it be easier just to play the fn thing?

Just find a drummer and hit record for an hour.

For sure, DIY it...

See here as a starting point.

Quote: : So where's the emoticon for headbutting a wall?

Can i be a total lazy farker and ask if someone can recommend their fav site specifically for fx and single hits- trance oriented? tnx woo those lists are l ng.

Quote: : HAHA, the internerd has everything

Indeed. As for crate digging, we used a bunch of samples from rare 70's czech jazz records recently.

Loads of wicked hi hat patterns, drum fills, stabs, bass parts etc etc...

All totally isolated.

It was a goldmine of highly useable sounds.

This thread should be a sticky...

^^^ I think so

I'll add it to the useful shit thread.

Nice one

Quote: : Here you go!!! MUSIC SAMPLES (beats etc.) You fucking legend! Thankyou Could someone please suggest some of the mentioned sites which have good tech electro, electro house and techo sampless and beats on them? Cheers

Just get some work ethic goin and make some shit yaself theres always an element of laziness when i just snatch a nice hook and mangle it a bit.. as opposed to snatchin one of my own hooks and mangleing it a bit instead... that for me personally is far more rewarding .... thats just me though...

Found a dope fijian record at the op shop, cost me 50cents, And it was chok full of tribal drumming and chanting.

Alot of isolated drum hits and fills too.

This is an interesting site as well: http://www.soundsnap.com/ ...worth a look for atmospheric and SFX type samples especially!

View my Sig.

Wow, only just joined this forum- tis gutt sheet!

Thanks for the lead on samples.
