Low Red King Crab stocks: Southeast red crab closed again this year Southeast red crab closed again this year Matt Lichtenstein PETERSBURG-AK (2007-09-18) The southeast red king crab fishery will be closed again this fall.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced on Friday (9/14) that the state’s estimate of the red crab abundance was far too low to have a commercial harvest.

It’s the fifth time the fishery has been closed in the last decade.

This year, the state has also announced an early, October closure for the region-wide personal use fishery.

Listened to the whole thing. Makes you think about how the surveys are done...how can they be more accurate...it's tough.
