Legendary Actor Charlton Heston Dead at 84 - SH Forums

What a Giant. RIP Moses.. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/movi...Heston.html?hp Legendary Actor Charlton Heston Dead at 84 LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died.

He was 84. Heston spokesman Bill Powers says the actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia was at his side. Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure." With his large, muscular build, well-boned face and sonorous voice, Heston proved the ideal star during the period when Hollywood was filling movie screens with panoramas depicting the religious and historical past.

"I have a face that belongs in another century," he often remarked.

A great actor. RIP....

One of my favorites ever.

He was the king of 70's sci-fi movies when I was young.

Quite the legacy he left.

I loved his work.

May he rest in peace. Sadie

What's even more important, was, he challenged us to consider an actor's role in the community to champion the causes he believed in.

He parlayed his fame into issues that divide us, and allowed us the reason to consider important questions a society must face. An actor in the cinema, and an actor in his beliefs. He leaves a noble legacy.

He was a great actor of our time.

I enjoyed much of his work including "Planet Of The Apes"!!

Another great actor from the Golden Age of Hollywood is gone.

RIP. Statement by the Family of Charlton Heston Saturday April 5, 11:24 pm ET BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 5, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Legendary actor, civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at the age of 84.

He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, at his side.

Mr. Heston was loved by his two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell. The Heston family issued the following statement: "To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support.

Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life.

He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played.

Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity. We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor.

He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity.

He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved. No one could ask for a fuller life than his.

No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country.

In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life!

I've lived enough for two people." A private memorial service will be held.

The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund:

I loved Heston and the films he was in even when it wasn't fashionable (and he was made fun of like Shatner for some of his overacting).

Terrific actor. Heck, I even liked his work AFTER became a spokesman/president of the NRA (it just didn't seem suitable to his image...then again he was sporting all those guns in "The Omega Man"). Great actor-- his performances in "Planet of the Apes", "The Ten Commandments" and "Major Dundee" was iconic.

My yearly favorite is him as Moses in The Ten Commandments.

Plays every Easter. RIP

One of the true all-time greats, may he rest in peace Condolences to his friends and family. A Heston DVD is definitely a must today.

Quote: : Blue My yearly favorite is him as Moses in The Ten Commandments.

Plays every Easter. RIP While not my favorite performance by him, we too watch this movie every year.

My son saw it for the first time this year.

Totally mesmerized he was. Sadie

A giant of the old Hollywood school.

RIP.

Folks, let's please focus on the loss of a great actor.

Let's not diminish the loss by turning this into a discussion of guns.

Thank you.

RIP.
