vitamins/supplements poll

1. Do you take them? 2.

Which ones do you take? My trainer suggested a multi-vitamin, anti-oxidant and joint support.

He is awesome, however, for not trying to sell me any particular kind.

That's how I know he actually wants me to take them, not just so that he can get a commission. I'm back taking the Viactiv chews, as I don't drink milk, and yogurt by itself makes me gag.

Don't tell the GHG fairy, but I *never* can meet the dairy requirements.

With viactiv, at least I'll get my calcium somehow.

9- What I've learned from all the books I've read in the past year about nutrition and fitness...

Unless your doctor has told you that you need to take a specific vitamin, you don't need more than a daily vitamin.

So, because my doc told me to take Iron (a specific type of iron) and E...

I take those (most days, I forget a lot).

Lol.

I just take a regular multi-vitamin.

Its the store brand of the pharamcy I go to b/c they were having a sale of buy one get one free one time for something ridic like 2,000 count bottles for $3 or something.

So. Its not a brand name or anything, but all the stuff on the label seemed good, like in the 100%s and stuff, so I bought it. What about chocolate milk?

Like skim milk with just a dab of choc in it?

Not even that? I don't do yougert either.

Blah. But I do love me some nice cold skim milk.

. Cold skim milk and cold choc skim milk..

...

What I have that I should be taking: Flax Seed Oil Calcium Multi vitamin Iron (which doesn't like me so I only take it when I'm getting ready to donate blood) Baby Asprin Ask me how often in the last month I've taken them?

Rarely.

What is the purpose of a multi-v?

I mean, if I eat a wide range of foods and a few fortified foods, don't I get all those requirements anyway?

For instance, if I meet all my GHGs and eat a clif bar and drink a protein shake, shouldn't I have all my vitamins already? I'm just curious...

Do you medical people and trainers know?

I try to take a multi every day (but forget often) and ferrous gluconate, which is a gentler iron (I have low iron levels, which makes me tired). Shelly, I will share with you that dairy has a blend of enzymes that you can't find anywhere else, and is quite beneficial to sustaining metabolism ...

Which obviously helps with weight loss and maintenence.

:)I eat a lot of string cheese and WW smoothies because I can't stomach milk ...

Ick!

Hey Lisa-is that just an over the counter vitamin.

I struggle with my iron.

It really messes my blood levels up.

I've been taking the multi-vitamin with iron, but I think maybe I need something else too.

Lisa - I eat as much cheese as I can fit into my points, and I do eat cottage cheese, sour cream, and yogurt on occasion. I actually was thinking of getting that peppermint smoothie mix as a way to get milk in, but I would need to get something to prevent my stomach from ballooning up HUGE.

Dawn, my sister is a pharmacist and told me to get it.

I found it in the health supplement section of Walgreens ...

I bought the store brand one, too.

My sister said it's good.

Iron can totally mess with your system, especially your digestive system, and this tends to be milder.

I have sitting on the counter waiting for me to take them: Multi vitamin (costco brand) Green tea cinnamon Calcium (my multi doesn't have enough!?!) Iron Potassium Vitamin D (Over the counter, but prescribed) oh, and because I seem to like pills, I also take Digestive Advantage for gas and lactose intolerance.

I also struggle with my iron, Dawn.

You may want to consider sublingual B12.

B12 is essential for proper red blood cell production. I have to do weekly B12 injections, but also keep the sublinguals around to supplement that as well. Next time you're in for physical, ask your doc to check your B12 levels. :)

Thanks Lisa. I'll have to try that.

Shelly, your stomach balloons up?

Are you lactose intolerant? I LOVE the smoothies ...

I mix them with a cup of ff milk and a cup of coffee so that they taste more like a cappacino and are BIG.

One smoothie + 1 cup of milk = 2 dairies because of the powdered milk in them.

And then I can cross those 2 little boxes off right away for only 3 pts.

My GYN checks all my levels.

He's trying to get me straightened out to wear I'm not almost passing out during TOM. <---trying not give TMI

I've been there and done that, sweetie.

Not fun at all!

Shelly, Check out two things and see how they might fit into your budget pointswise and $$wise. 1) Silk brand Unsweetened Soy milk.

It's about 70 calories per serving (80 for the Organic) and mixes into everything like regular milk.

Not so hot for pudding or maccaroni, but drinks and baked goods are just fine. 2) Digestive Advantage for Lactose Intolerance.

It's about $10 for a month at most grocery stores.

It's a pill you take once a day instead of with each meal.

I've found that it works great for me, so it's worth a try it that's your issue.

What you are saying sounds like how my L.I.

Started out.

Chandra, does the Digestive Advantage really help? Also, you could move down here and get your vitamin D from the sun.

Just sayin'. Does everyone take regular horse pill vitamins ?

Or does anyone take gummies/chewables/etc?

Shelly, I have a skylight right above my desk and I still don't get enough.

I think I must repel the goodness of the sun.

Or else I just OD'd when I was a lifeguard and now I require more to get my levels rising. Yes, I do believe that pill helps.

I really tested it when I came down there!

I had never taken it before, but I ate everything that I had restricted before.

Ice cream, Clam Chowder, cheeses on everything, pretty much the anti-WWer diet.

I never had a problem with bloat or the other GI issues.

I swear, I could be a walking advertisement for them!

My multivitamin and calcium are both the chocolate Viactive chews. nummy

Lisa, I think I might be...

All I know is the milk does not agree with my stomach, plus I hate the way it tastes. Chandra, I might try those.

I also bought some of those muscle milk light 100 calorie drinks for an after-school, before-gym snack. Dawn, I used to have similar problems, TG my BC helped get that under control. I have borderline low iron, so I don't stress about it.

I take so many pills every morning that I don't bother with a vitamin, unless I remember to throw Gummi Vites on my evening ice cream. I do, however, take glucosamine 'cause I have bad joints.

Do you think the glucosamine helps? I love gummy vites.

I need to get some at costco.
