*real women / real food - tuesday*

Bread, butter, olive oil, cheese, wine, coffee, chocolate, pasta, steak, all kinds of fresh vegetables, sweet and delicious fruit, yogurt, seafood ...

All have a place in the way we eat.

Quality over quantity is our mantra. We are women dedicated to putting REAL foods into our REAL bodies.

We strive to make strong, healthy, and natural choices.

We are saying NO to faux foods and embracing real foods.

We share ideas, recipes, insights, struggles and triumphs. This thread is based on listening to your body, eating real foods, eating slowly and for pleasure -- all of which is outlined in the Fat Fallacy by Will Clower.

We find this book to be a MUST read. We avoid faux food (foods full of chemicals), processed food (again, chemicals, fillers, etc.), and food with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) or artificial sweeteners.

We liberally use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).

Some of us focus on more organic and natural foods -- but that is certainly optional and a personal choice.

We believe it's not necessary to buy organic products to eat "real" -- but often it's helpful so that you can weed out the chemicals. We don't preach Core, we don't preach Flex, we prefer not to count points at all, but rather listen to our own bodies.

We all came together through the WW program and embrace the basic lifestyle principles of portion control and wise food choices.

Some of us are working to lose weight, some of us are content to maintain, some of us are just enjoying each other's company every day, whatever the scale may say. Welcome!

Morning, marking.

About to start day off with a brisk walk. Ann

Hi Ladies- Thanks for the welcome yesterday.

I love to read what everyone eats...why is that so interesting!?

But it is, and I'm realizing that you eat really good food, but not that MUCH.

This is exactly what I needed to see.

I have also noticed that many of you pre-plan your day--has that helped you stay on track?

It's something I TRY to do but writing it all down for friends to see in the morning seems like it'll give you more accountability. Here's my plan for today: Tues: b-oat bran w/ mixed berries, honey, ground flax l-mixed greens w/ roasted beets, goat cheese, walnuts and green onions, maybe a little chicken s-apple d-curry squash soup Question: if you eat oatmeal/oatbran, about how much do you make?

Also, chicken, 3oz, 4oz?

I actually consider myself well-versed in health and healthy eating, but just don't trust myself when it comes to portion sizes.

So, I'm curious if other people keep track of amounts, eyeball, or what.

I think I just always have a little bit too much...(so for instance, made 1/3 c.

Of oatbran today b/c that was the serving size but it seemed like a lot and I didn't eat it all.) I'm recovering from a BIG wedding weekend in Chicago last weekend, didn't work out yesterday but am hoping to get off my booty and do something active/sweaty today.

Possibly will just do some yoga but we'll see.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Oh, and incidentally, I grew up in Minnesota so I love hearing about the fall weather! Gretchen

Good morning. Feeling rather grumpy today, but sure why.

Hopefully my coffee will help turn things around.

It isn't helping that my work computer is running s slow. My laptop is broken, from water getting spilled on it.

Ironically on Yom Kippur, the day where I cannot eat or drink anything.

Still not sure how water got in there yesterday.

(Come to think of it, that's probably what is causing my bad mood.) Oh, and my friend thought it would be hilarious to come to my house, ring the door bell, and then hold on to the door, pushing and pulling on it, as I frantically tried to "protect" my house from an "intruder".

Yeah, that was awesome.

Needless to say, I freaked out.

I also bruised up my hand and knee something fierce.

Okay, I think I'm getting to the root of the bad mood. But new day today.

The weather is supposed to turn here tomorrow and only be 77*!!!!

I'm so excited! I'm going to wear long pants, and socks and shoes to celebrate. Ann- Enjoy your walk! Willa- That orchard sounds great!

Enjoy the chilly weather!

(Says the girl still wearing sandals and a sleeveless top.) LG- Have you gone to the doc yet?

I'm sorry you're still feeling icky.

BTW, an apple chai is something from S'bucks, a combo of apple cider and chai tea.

S yummy. (Sorry I forgot to answer you last week.) JenJ- , pesto.

Now you can enjoy it all winter. Menu today: B: fage and strawberry smoothie, coffee L: turkey, hummus, and greens on sourdough, apple, yellow pepper strips S: ??? D: cheese ravioli w/ apples and walnuts, sauteed green beans

Ashley hope today is a better day.

Yikes, and WTH with that friend pulling such a stunt? I went to the doc yestedray and he said most likely a virus and they run 7-10 days (been 7 now) If still feel bad next week he will do some labs.

Head is hurting now again, ugh I really thought I was on the mend last night. Gretchen, I do plan my day out in advance.

I take breakfast/lunch/snacks with me to work everyday so I need to have it all planned out.

Dinner is a bit more flexible, I plan it out but don't always follow it exactly depending on what I feel like. As for portions with oatmeal/oat bran I do either 1/3 or 1/2 cup dry.

Never have a problem finishing it all :) I don't eat chicken/meat but do eat fish/seafood and typically do 4 oz, sometimes a little less or more.

I feel best when I get a good amount of protein, lots o'veggies, and moderate grains and fats.

Ladies! dinner last night was tabouli (spelling?) salad and pita and humus.

YUM Today b - sps eggs l - leftover chix and salad & maybe some black beans tossed in & salsa? d - fresh chix (poor planning) pots, Brux, salad? walk later - gym shortly for some sort of cardio.

Too chilling for stad steps?

Hmmm what to do. Gretchen - planning helps me a lot - it also gives me the opportunity to fix my menu issues (lack of protein, lack of veg etc) JenJ - I think I'm going to take the kids apple picking one day post school -= weekends freak me out - too much to do and too many peeps. Don't forget the marathon is sunday as well - could be nutty getting around. about 20 guys working on the house right now.

Well - at least 12.

Pretty cool. I need to take a post some updated photos.

44 right now - feels like 39 - no outdoor workout today.

Dog walk later. Ashley - srsly - I'd be POd at that "friend" WTHECK???? everyone else - hiya - BBL.

I have to email my MIL back about stupid stuff and its giving me a headache right now.

Ugh

Susan- Yep, not feeling to nice towards her right now. LG- Yeah, she thought it was pretty funny.

Not quite aure why, since she knows I hate to be scared.

Glad you were able to get to the doc.

I'm feel so bad that you've been sick for so long. Gretchen- I, too, do 1/3-1/2 cup dry oats.

Typically protein for me is 4-5 oz.

I never measure fruits or veggies, but I do measure carbs/grains/etc.

I find I can get away with less measuring when I'm maintaining, but have to be stricter when I'm trying to lose.

And I plan breakfast and lunch, because I take them to work with me.

I also plan out my dinner menus for a week on Wednesdays (my groc shopping day).

That was I have some flexibilty, but I know what 7 meals I'm going to be having that week.

Morning all! Menu Today: Breakfast - Coffee, 0% Fage w Kashi & Slivered Almonds, Green Monster w Spinach, Almond Milk, Banana Lunch - Salad w Avocado and Veggies Snack - Kashi Crackers, Cheese Dinner - Egg White Omelette with Spinach, Exekiel Bread Exercise - Need to run after work! Gretchen - portion control is what it's ALL about.

If I didn't measure everything I would end up eating tubs of almond butter and dark chocolate.

But I find a little of the good, real stuff goes a long way. I made a big mistake and jumped on the scale this morning 2 days before WI.

Well the weight loss gods laughed and me and the scale was up THREE POUNDS!

I've been excellent this week - so frustrating!

Water retention? Mystery 3 pound weight in my hand?

I don't know. I was upset but know I need to chug some water, eat some decent meals, sweat and move on.

Ugh but was so annoyed!!!

Sorry for the rant...!

Our gala is tomorrow, it is a cocktail reception with heavy apps (passed and stations) Just got a preview of the menu and looks awesome!!

It is at the Four Seasons like last year and the food was great. One of the stations is Mediterranean with all the typical stuff tabouli/baba ganoush/hummus/olives/roasted peppers and artichoke hearts and also an Asian station with sushi, sashimi, seared wasabi crusted tuna.

My two favorite types of food. Susan crazy about the kitchen work.

Post pics. Also post pics from the GTG last week.

Abbe is TOM looming soon?

Did you have some bigger/heavier meals over the weekend?

Excess food/sodium in the system can make the scale go up for a few days post bigger meals.

I officialy WI on Fridays but if I peak on Mon/Tues it is almost always higher since I tend to eat more on weekends.

Good to know Lara!

I definitely do tend to indulge more on the weekends...extra glass of wine (or 4)...salty treats etc.

Will keep on trucking and see what happens.

Thanks for the insight!

Ashley - Your "friend" needs to get a grip.

Seriously. Ann

Ashley - could hardly believe when you used the pronoun "her" re: the door story - what woman would do that to another woman???

I'd be peeved, too.... Marking, actually - hope to make it back later, sorry have been MIA - busy, busy!!!

I also assumed it was a guy doing that (and thought maybe that jerky guy..) Jamie is your DBF still there? Ashley, it was Walden spa we were going to go to but my cousin didn't make resi's far enough in advance and they couldn't accomdoate all 4 of us at the same time (big wedding party there) so we are going someplace else.

Too bad, looked so nice.

Yep, definitely a female friend.

Funny you should mention the jerk friend.

I almost wish it would have been him so I would have a reason to go off on him once and for all. LG- Too bad about Walden.

I would love to go there sometime.

Totally random, but can someone explain the thinking behind scheduling a child's birthday party halfway across the county on a midweek afternoon? Do the hosts think all these households have stay-at-home Moms?

Or do they perhaps not actually want us to come? <SIGH> Ann

Ann - perhaps they had their hearts set on the activity? and it wasn't available on a weekend that worked for them? Or is it just at someone's house? or is it say....

At the roller rink you need to book way in advance for Sat afternoon? Ashley - I just assumed it was that guy.

Funny. LG - any spa sounds lovely!!!

Build-a-Bear. <sigh>

Good afternoon, ladies ... Hope all are well. LG - so sad to see you're still under the weather.

What is up with that?

I see your stats are still down ...

Are you eating / able to eat?

I know you're feeling not too terrible, but I hope you're taking care of yourself.

I hope the doc was right, and that you feel better soon! Ann - Build-a-Bear sounds like a nightmare.

LOL. I'm sorry....

:-/ Ashley - Now I understand your FB post from yesterday - truly an icky day, I hope today is better! Susan - I envy your weather, actually.

Cali never gets that interesting... Gretchen - Hi!

Like others have said before, I strongly recommend weighing and measuring your food.

When I was losing, I weighed and measured and tracked EVERYTHING.

Even single bites of stuff.

My family thought I was insane.

I still measure now and then to help avoid "portion creep," but not as much anymore.

It did get a bit cumbersome, and made eating out difficult. I'm well ...

Busy, but good. DBF is home now for good.

I mean, he'll be deployed again, probably in January, but he lives here, so he should be around for a while.

:) Unfortunately, he got swine flu last week and has been in a really bad way for about a week - on the mend now, though.

We're about to go to some outlet stores to poke around Menu: B - raisin bran + skim milk + flax meal + blueberries L - chicken on salad w pine nuts S - probably a Sbux treat at the outlets D - TBD.

DBF wants In-N-Out, but that doesn't sound v appealing to me at the moment, may lobby for something else.... Have a great day, all, and HI to anyone I missed!

- J.

Jamie I have no trouble eating.

It was just one day last week my appetite was off.

You are down quite a bit from your goal.

Are you intentionally trying to lose more? went to the gym for some weights.

Felt weak and tired so took it easy.

Hope I feel normal for the weekend it is going to be crazy busy.

My cousin has it all planned out not to mention being around three little kids all weekend is enough to tire me out.
