NFL Forum :: - Bengals sign former Cowboys safety Roy Williams

Quote: : The Bengals have agreed to terms with former Cowboys free safety Roy Williams. http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/05/06/former-cowboys-safety-williams-going-to-bengals/ The Bengals signed former Cowboys safety Roy Williams. Roy Williams asked to be traded or released by the Cowboys and got his wish earlier in the off-season, Williams was drafted 8th overall in the 2002 draft by the Cowboys. Williams has struggled badly in coverage and the team was considering moving him to LB, but decided to answer his request instead and released him. ***Update*** Its a one-year, $750,000 deal.

Not a bad move, maybe he will be a LB there. Much Thanks to iHUSTLE-N-GRIND 2009 Jacksonville Jaguar Mock Draft Competition CHAMPION

Shouldn't there starting backer core look like this? WILL- Dhani MIKE- Rey SAM- Glass Jaw

Obviously couldn't get enough Hard Knocks.

He will already know the system pretty well, having his old coach there.

Pretty good pick up.

I thought he was becomming a reality TV actor...

Keith Rivers plays WLB.

He'll probably back him up, and maybe play some SS.

Rey Rey has been lining up at SLB, though we may see him at MLB in the future.

Dhani Jones plays MLB for us. I like the signing.

Roy brings a lot of talent to the table, and he can definitely lay the lumber.

We won't be asking too much of him, so whatever he does will be a solid bonus. I really like what we've done over the offseason.

I think we are really improving.

He'll probably play SS like Nedu Ndukwe plays FS they will probably put Dhani at WILL Rey at Mike Rivers at SAM

Good for him getting to play in a 4-3.

I'd like to hear his excuse after he stinks it up there. But seriously.

What the hell does the scheme of the front seven have to do with DBs?

What the hell does the scheme of the front seven have to do with DBs? I know Sean Jones was talking about how different Safeties play in the 3-4 and 4-3 in a interview on PE.com.

I guess its just the cover 2/3 that are the difference in the two schemes.

What the hell does the scheme of the front seven have to do with DBs? Well for a guy who actually had a couple great seasons people like to trash him pretty hard.

Even though there are top picks Laron Landry, Donte Whitner as examples who may never make as many plays in their career as Roy made his rookie season.

Ya I think Landry and Whit are good players but Roy was actually great at one point and not very many players are ever "great", at any point in their career.

Could be a bad signing, but he's pretty much nothing in coverage. Jon Beason and Everette Brown together, I love it. Florida Marlins 2009 Record: (17-16)
