The old rule of thumb is the team that gets the best player wins the trade.
With that in mind I will have to wait till we see the draft selections play in the NFL.

Yes, Roy was never going to resign here, and he did not warrant top 5 money.
I loved watching Roy, but he was never ever going to be what many of us thought he was.
We thought he was the second coming of Herman Moore, but he was just a good player.
Not a great player.

Not only was there ZERO chance we'd give him 10m per year, but he wasn't a good fit.
He was in and out of games, and many of his yards and TD's were in garbage time (like the 90 yarder at Philly).
He was a low end #1, and we already had Calvin.
We got a pure stud at TE, who will likely prove to be a bit more productive version of Heath Miller.
We also got a WR/KR who fits the slot role perfectly.
DW will be able to take 2nd team reps with Stafford, and build a rapore with him.
Williams immediately upgrades our return games, and gives us a nice fill in at slot WR in 2010 when Ronald Curry is gone.
He can take direct snaps, run reverses, and catch bubble screens very effectively.
I think D. Williams is a better version of Randle El, and that plus a stud TE over RW is a good deal all day long!

I wouldn't do it anymore.
We traded Roy for a blocking tight end, a kick returner, and a lesser Aveion Cason.
When Roy was here he averaged 78 Yards Per Game and a Touchdown every 1.72 games.
I don't think the production we will gain from the three players we drafted will be more than that.

Yes, no question.
He didn't seem like he wanted to play here anymore, and we got a top TE prospect out of it, plus two other guys.
It's better than letting him walk.

Yeah, but we weren't going to re-sign him though.
So at least we got something out of his departure.

I think if we wanted to we could have resigned Roy.
Would we have had to overpay?
Most likely, but we could have gotten a deal done if we wanted to.
We had the cap room to do it.

I don't think Roy was the type of player worth overpaying for.
Especially with his negative attitude.
I would do the trade without a doubt again.

agreed.
As much as i liked Roy he just wanted that great of a player and i think eventually we would of had a fitz/boldin situation (without the winning).
The only good part if we kept Roy Williams was i guarantee we would of snuck atleast 1 game out last year.
also i love that Quote: - what a fool.

Without even thinking twice!
Roy was highly overrated, and was a slightly above average number 1 as well (I call him #1 because he would have wanted #1 money to stay) Pettigrew will be huge for us...Like many of you, I did not like the pick due to other needs, but he is mad-talented!
I would have traded William (and thought thought of losing him to free agency or having to pay him top 5 money by franchising him) for Pettigrew alone, and we also got Williams who can at least be a good kr or 3rd WR....Brown...SUCKS!

I think people are underestimating Pettigrew's value.
Yes, he's more of a blocker than a receiver, but he's a very good pass-catcher as well.
The key is that opposing defenses won't know if he's lining-up to block or run a route...with Culpepper or Stafford, he should be a great bootleg target.
He's not the guy I would have picked, but he's a very, very good player that I think will help us a lot.
Derrick Williams and Aaron Brown?
Not high on either.
But Williams has potential, and Brown....shmeh.
I still like the deal.
We won't know for some time, but I think the combined potential (and what we have to pay these guys) made the deal a good one.
