Quote: : La Canfora reports free agent DE Antwan Lake is scheduled to workout for the Falcons Tuesday, according to a league source.

I actually remember him when he played with us in 2005.
He was solid, but nothing special.
I really don't think he is an upgrade over anyone we have on the roster already, so I'm not sure why we would bring him in.
With the way our defensive ends have been playing, though, it never hurts to try something new.

Doesnt make much sense, I dont see him coming in to challenge for any starting position and I dont believe we need to add anymore non quality depth

If I recall, he pretty much put Curtis Martin into retirement on MNF.

Roye's a big boy (6'4", 330 lbs).
If it looks like he can still play, he could help our D-line in running situations.
They obviously aren't confident with Johnson or Trey Lewis right now.
Spicer's an LDE, 295 lbs.
I think we're okay at the DE spot though and Spicer isn't much of a pass rusher (although he did get 7.5 sacks in 2005 and 2007).
Another ex-Jaguar who at least knows Smith's system.
Lake's more of DT at 308 lbs.
He'd probably just be around for depth but who knows.
He has started in this league before.
There's usually a reason that guys like this are on the scrapheap so I'm not confident that any of them are solution to our problems.
It doesn't hurt to give them a workout though.

Dont know much about Roye other then he is big
Spicer knows Mike Smith from Jacksonville, maybe it would help him have a little bit of impact

I know in 2005 Roye was a dang MANIMAL.
I just remember him being unstoppable that year and decided to look up his stats.
Can't remember if it was at 3-4 DE or 3-4 NT at the time but they was still amazing for a 3-4 D-lineman.
He had something like 85+ tackles 3 sacks and 4 PD.
For a man his size thats just killing people on the d-line.
Doubt he is anywhere near what he was but he still can't be that bad for a 1 yr stop gap and will help abe from getting double teams.
Also i love Paul Spicer as a player He's not gonna be an all world DE for us anymore at his age but he would come in and upgrade our talent at the DE spot and be better than anderson, Biermann, and Sidbury are at this point in their careers.
Great against run adequate in pass rush.

I'd like to sign Spicer, and one of the DTs to add to our rotation.
Wish we still had Gravy.

Apparently we didn't sign any of them.
I'm a little conflicted on this as our DTs haven't been good at all.
I'm wondering if this was mostly to shake up our D-line a bit.
Threaten their jobs and they'll have to work even harder.

Yeah, but what does the fact that we didn't sign any of them tell our linemen?
That we perused the market, and there's nothing out there.
So really, it tells them that they have some degree of job security, at least for the rest of this season.

That's true too but hopefully they all want to prove something in this league so it'll be a wake up call.
Either perform now or you'll be gone by the end of the year.
