Quote: : "If Roy Williams doesn't turn out to be the player that they thought he would be when they made the trade, I think this would be one of the biggest busts in the history of the league," Aikman said.
He doesn't say he'd be the biggest bust, just that he'd be one of them.
Given what the team gave up in order to get him, I'd be in agreement.
I doubt that one first rounder is going to set us back a few years, but it would still be a disappointment if he didn't live up to expectations.

I know some people say we overvalue draft picks but you've got to be missing those 1st and 3rd round picks right about this time.
I really don't think Roy Williams is worth that.

He obviously was unaware of GB's trade for 34 year old QB John Hadl midway through the '74 season.
After game 6 of the '74 season, GB traded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd from the '75 draft and a 1st and 3rd from the '76 draft.
He played a season and a half.
The remainder of the '74 season he threw 3 TD's and 8 int's for a 54.0 rating, he threw 6 TD's and 21 int's in the '75 season for a 52.8 rating, and was cut after the '75 season.
Destroyed the team for a decade.

Ummm... not even close.
Williams needs a whole season with the Cowboys before we try to evaluate this trade.

I'm surprised that Troy Aikman didn't mention the biggest trade bust that involved his team, The Herschel Walker trade.
While Herschel Walker was still successful for Minnesota, it single-handedly set up the Cowboys for their SB runs and is the reason why Troy is in the HOF.

I'm not exactly sure what Williams' problem is.
Has spurts of just being down right fantastic, and then gets the dropsies bad.
He's got all the talent in the world to be one of the better WRs in the league, he's just got to finally catch up with that potential and turn it into results.

People always over exaggerate the current and forget the past.
Their are probably 50 trades throughout history worse than this one.

Haha I saw that today on NFL.COM and i said to myself, " Wow and people questioned the trade of a 25 year old franchise Quarterback for 2 1st round picks"

I expect Williams to be good down the road barring injury.
And possibly Romo doing odd things.

Back on topic though, Roy Williams will not be a bust.
He was proven back with the Lions that he is more than capable of being a star wideout.
If things don't work out for him this year on the Cowboys expect him to be on another team 2010.
I still can't believe the Lions didn't hold on to Roy.
Can you imagine Stafford, Calvin and Roy?

How about the Herschel Walker trade?
Also, I would say this situation is not significantly worse than spending a first on a wide receiver who doesn't produce.
The fact that he has previously proven himself in the league excuses the extra third and sixth.
All of this is a moot point if he produces, of course.
