I want a simple mp3 player with good sound quality - mp3 player Discussion Forum
I don't understand a lot of the terminology for these devices, so please forgive me.
I just want an mp3 player that I can view the files by going into My Computer so I can simply drag and drop my mp3s right onto it.
I don't want to have to use a program to do it.
I love music so much, and I want something that is going to have good sound quality as well.
I'm looking at this item: "Philips SA1948/37 4 GB Flash Audio MP3 Player" but it doesn't say if you can drag and drop your music onto it or not.
Can anyone help me with suggestions or do you know about this particular player?
I can't spend more than $40.
I think a 4 GB player for $40 is a good deal and plenty of space for my usage, but again, I can't deal with something complex.
Thanks in advance for your help, I really appreciate it.

I just ordered the 2.8" Touchscreen MP3/MP4 Player with Digital Still & Video Camera, FM Receiver, Recorder, JPG Viewer - 2 GB and i hope it's as good as they say, can't really give advice but I've been checking out the MP3's for like 3 months now.
I liked the price and the fact that it has a camera and and DV camera, as well as music and a radio that you can record from plus lots more.
You can even add up to 4GB of space, total of 6, which is still a lot of space.
I'll let you know more once I receive it.

Thank you so much.
Will you let me know if it's easy to use, can you just drag and drop your music right onto it?

I love my sansa e250 because of the ease of use and the drag and drop feature, so i would definitly recomend it, here at amazon: "SanDisk Sansa e250 2 GB MP3 Player with microSD Expansion Slot", but i if you can afford 10 more dollars, then i would opt for the sansa fuze, but i have never had one.

The Sansa Clip or Fuze (depending on whether you want just audio or some video and pictures too) are both talked about widely on the Cowon D2 as having some of the best sound quality out there.
Those people are true audiophiles!
The Sansa players are reasonably priced to boot compared to other quality players.
They show up under my computer and you can drag and drop to your hearts content.

What about this black one for $52.00?

Clip is a great player.

I like the black one better!
And you can get the accessories to go with it for only a couple more bucks.
What are some good head phones?
Sometimes the headphones that come with a player aren't so good.
Is Skullcandy good?

Jessica, I bought the JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black) <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000 IG66VS>
On Black Friday for $11.98, they are now $9.98.
I highly recommend them.
They have good balance sound, are soft and comfortable and can be inserted with one hand.
I say that in contrast to the following buds...
I purchased the Koss "The Plug" Portable Headphones <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000 01P4XA>
About two years ago.
These are FANTASTIC, but they take some getting used to.
The foam plug is actually a hearing protector so it really blocks out the sound.
Downside is you have to treat them like a hearing protector, so you have to squeeze the plug down, and insert into your ear while your other hand pulls back on the lobe from around the back of your head (if you have seen a hearing protector poster you will know exactly what I mean).
I use these when I am mowing the lawn, so I am protecting my hearing from the loud lawnmower and adding music as well...
With these, I can set my MP3 player to about 11 when using the lawnmower and only hear a faint hum in the background, whereas with other earphones I have to set it to 16 just to make out the lyrics above the noise of the mower.
Great for not being disturbed.
Had my wife walk up on me while weeding and scared the bejeezus out of me: had no clue anything existed in the world except me, my music, and those damn dirty weeds!
Additionally, if you have patience, you can make these personalized if you already know a certain hearing protector works for you.
I use the 3M Model 1100 <http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000 2YK9YG>.
All you have to do is core out the center and place them on the post that comes with the Plug.
If you search around the web for this model, you can find lots of people who mod these.
I know I sound like I am really pushing the Koss, but that is only if you need that level of isolation.
The JBuds are very good buds, and less at this time, too.
As for the Skullcandy, I almost bought those instead of the JBuds, but decided not to since the JBuds are less "obvious".
I can not comment on their sound, but they are a good deal also.
Hope this helps.

I'm so thankful i checked this discussion;
I was looking for a super simple mp3 player to use in my car;
Sure, i can burn CDs and play them but why do that when i can use an mp3 player and constantly change/update my playlist vs making CD after CD after CD?
I've got an ipod touch and can connect it to my car speakers while driving but for some reason, the sound doesn't come through very loudly;
I have to crank up my speakers for some reason;
So i'm getting the 1 gig sansa and thanks to vulcan's comments about the ear buds, i'm getting that too (not to use while driving);
Great price. anyway, i just wanted to thank you all and let you know that your comments are really helpful to other amazon customers who are looking for some guidance/advice.
Thank you!

I have had no luck in finding the following: a small bedside boombox which features mp3 (for old time radio mp3 cd's), cassette, (am/fm not necessary but would ok) and very importantly a sleep timer I presently have a Sony which meets all my requirements but is starting to its age and problems are starting to arise not interested in Ipod capable but everything seems to be in that mode these days and perhaps my requirement is now out of reach

I have a Sansa Clip 8GP MP3 Player which I have had about 4 months & just love.
I also own a Creative Zen 32GP which I paid a lot more money for several years ago.
I bought the Clip to use at the gym - the battery doesn't last like the Zen nor does it compare with overall features.
However you can purchase the Sansa Clip at WalMart for the best price I have seen anywhere.
They both have great sound.

Have you unlocked the volume restriction?
I was messing with my son's Ipod today & had the same problem.
I had to go into the settings and unlock the volume restriction.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion but my volume restriction wasn't on so that wasn't the issue;
Very odd. when i listen to my ipod touch using ear phones, the sound is great and i don't have to crank it up;
When i connect my tiny, tiny sansa, the sound comes through loud and clear.
Go figure!

I got my kids each a sandisk sansa clip.
They are great. easy to load, easy to use, and the clip helps keep it from hitting the ground.
They love them.

I will second that.
I have had quite a few mp3 players and reasearch
quite a bit before I buy.
The Fuze is by far the best
one I have purchased in terms of price/value.
It also
works the best and sounds the best.
Close second is the Cowon G3 that uses the AA battery.
Has many features and I expect it will last a long time.
The great thing about the Fuse is how simple it is to
use now that they added the "folder option" that means
all you do is drag and drop files.
The player simply looks
like a disk drive and you organize your musis by sep.
Folders
for eash musician or type of music.
Very simple.
Also battery life is phenomenal.
Around 20-24 hrs.

I have a Sansa with the expansion slot and I am very disappointed in that when you add a micro-sd card to the expansion slot it kills the battery life of the unit.
With no card in the expansion slot I can listen to music for thirty hours or more, with a micro-sd card inserted, I get around four or five hours of listening time.

I just bough a Sansa Clip and it is indeed a great little (very little) device.
But be clear on one point.
If you want to copy songs from your CDs onto the Clip, you cannot just insert the CDs into your computer, insert the Clip as well, and drag from one folder into another.
You must convert the CD songs into MP3 compatible files before you can transfer them to the Clip.
The easiest way to do this is via Windows Media Player.
It involves two stages: first ripping the CD onto your cmputer, and then synching the ripped song or album onto the Clip.
Go to the Sansa web page and it will tell you exactly how to do this.
Good luck,
m
