Looking for a good Portable mp3 player - mp3 player Discussion Forum

Currently I have a Creative Zen Xta 60gb, but creative has stopped making them and my hard drive broke.

I'm currently looking for a new MP3 player, I was looking at the creatives and a few other brands till I noticed they were flash drives.

So I started looking at the hard drive based, and narrowed it down to zunes and archos.

I need heavy storage, 60+ gb, video is nice but not needed.

But stability, high music volume (because I ride on a noisy commuter train), and file storage is a must.

I was going to buy based off of customer reviews, but for every product I looked at had good and bad.

And the fact is you never know if the bad is becouse the person doesn't know how to use it or if it is a genuine problem. Can you guys/gals help?

And I'm not a big Ipod fan, the fact that I have 3 sources to choose from and the fact that it is a pain to transfer music between the sources and from the player to the source (Ipod touch especially) soured me quick on them.

Also the fact that I can't transfer work files and use the device to transfer back and forth to my home system.

I borrowed my co-workers for a week while he used my creative before it went bad.

Have you considered a Cowon product?

They are known for their sound quality.

I have 2 cowon products and a 3rd on the way.

Can't find anything that compares to sound quality and I have owned Zunes, Ipods and a Zen. For what you are looking for here is a link to one that has the capacity Cowon Q5 80 GB Video MP3 Player (Dark Blue) Good luck!

Thank You Fun doll, I've had mine for a few days now and it beat all my expectations so far with no problems at all.

I appreciate your advice since it helped out a lot.

It's a little expensive, thats true, but its worth every penny Took me a day or so to get used to the controls since I used a zen for so long;

But set up, transfers, and wifi set up with no trouble at all.

Now I'm going to buy a case and maybe a second one for the wife since she's been using it when I'm home.

My co-worker (the one I borrowed the ipod from) also tried it out when I was in meeting and he liked it enough that he bought one last friday.

For your noisy commute, I would suggest some Altec Lansing EarBuds that have a wood fitting for the speaker, they are AWESOME.

I use them while mowing and hear very little noise from the mower and I have my mp3 volume about 1/2.

Actually the iPods become very good players once you install Rockbox on them.

:-) http://www.rockbox.org Even if you don't, you can use MediaMonkey instead of iTunes to transfer music on and off iPods.
