Weight loss Hi I woundered if anyone may be able to help one of my pigs has lost wieght. he is ok in himself and eating well no other symtoms.

Should i take him to the vets? Thanks

Re: Weight loss How much weight? The problem with pigs is that they will seem like themselves until the situation is very dire, and sadly, by the time you actually notice symptoms, it might be too late.

Re: Weight loss Hi He has lost 9oz So now i am phoning the vet. Thanks

Re: Weight loss Yes, 9 ounces is significant and he should see a vet.

Re: Weight loss Just phoned the vet and we going to see him in 15 mins Thanks

Re: Weight loss Hi We been to the vets and they have given him antibiotics.

We have to review him in 5 days or sooner if things change. Thanks

Re: Weight loss Hi I caught it in time he has a uri feeling much better now. Thank you

Re: Weight loss Just a quick update for you guys. Booboo went back to the vets for a check up and he has put on a small amount of weight.

He is a little more active and the vet has given his one more course of baytrill, Thank you for all your help.

If it had not been for you all then i think i would have lost him.

Re: Weight loss You may want to buy a kitchen scale and weigh your pigs weekly.

I do this with all 5 of my pigs, and record all their weights in a journal.

By doing this, you can see you is losing weight, who is gaining weight, and who is staying about the same weight.

You are MUCH MORE likely to catch anything that is going on with them earlier if you weigh them often since they mask their symptoms.
