Has anyone lost their fingernails from erythrodermic p - National Psoriasis Foundation message board

I Was diagnosed with erythrodermic psoriasis last december and have it everywhere on my body even where the sun don't shine and lost my fingernails and toenails, does anyone have any idea when they will grow back?

I have these funny looking sharp growths mostly on the outsides of the nail that I have to be very careful of as they cut me very easily.

The beds of the nails crack when my skin gets too dry.

Any Suggestions? Also does anyone know how long it takes to get this type of psoriasis into remission?

Thanks Dawn

Ohhh sorry to hear about your nails.

I never lost them, but I did have them get tissue paper thin, I mean if I let them grow past my finger tips I could bend them in half.

My derm suggested I take biotin (B7) it took a while, but it did help them get stronger again.

I dont have the e-dermic but do have the PPPP and I lost all of my fingernails as well.

It took over a year of Remicade to get them back.

They are not normal as before P but there is enough of them that if I put about 5 layers of polish on them they dont rip off so easily.

They are still pitted with ridges etc.

Hi paroday, im sorry that i can't help much but welcome to the p family.

You have meet some of the wonderful people on here and will find alot of great info.

Welcome and nice to meet you. try and have a good weekend all richard

Hi. My father lost his finer and toe nails a few years back due to pustular P and it did take some time for them to grow back.

But then even if you just lose a fingernail due to hitting it etc it can still take a while for it to come back.

Hi paroday, I also have been recently diagnosed with edermic "p" I recently noticed ridges and pits in my fingernails .

I fear i may lose my nails as well not looking forward to that .

I wish i could help but this is all still new to me as well.

I am sure someone here can help though.

From what i read and learned so far it varries alot on remission.

I was was having good success with the cyclosporine that is until my derm lowered my dose then it started coming back with a vengance.

I have since been raised back to 400mg cyclosprine along with 25mg soriatain no results yet but i am hanging in there.

I think this forum is great its nice to know i am not in this alone, Thanks to all

I've got P embedded in my nail beds in both my fingers and toes and lost a few nails on both.

They do grow back, but it took some time for me.

I don't have any advice for what to take as when this happened to me i had no insurance.

When they grew back though, they grew in stronger and more normal looking.

I ended up using some sort of vitamins that said they are for skin and nails and put lotion on under gloves for a while to help moisturize.

The vitamins i bought at Wal-mart.

The were just some generic brand that said they were for skin and nails.

If i can find the bottle (i think i still have it) I'll post the name.

I have lost the toenail on the 2nd toe next to my big toe in a swimming incident, strange that it was painless, I think it due to my extent and history of plaque p, with trim n cut after a span of nearly 2 years I reckon, Only then did I notice a full cover of my nail back to the stage where it is harden enough.

Though it still looks pitted at times Also, you may like to avoid squeezing motion nail clippers, as I found it detrimental for nails to grow well without chipping as they grow, try pliers type clipper instead, not only are u able to keep these clippers more hygenic, by cleaning the blades down with alcohol, they are better with dealing with with secondary skin growth that emerges with these nail renewal process

Hi greywolf, welcome to the p family.

Thanks Dawn I notice sometimes my nails split.

Can this be the beginning of a new autoimmune disorder or one that continues with psoriasis?

"I notice sometimes my nails split.

Can this be the beginning of a new autoimmune disorder or one that continues with psoriasis? I don't think it would be another auto immune disease....when the nails pit and lift loose from the nail bed it is a GOOD indicator that P arthritis is most likely in your future

I have lost all of my nails due to PPPP also.

Some of my toenails have grown back fine, but my fingers still are taking there time.

I still get Pustular P on my nails so they never get a chance to grow.

I get hard pieces of nails, almost like an ingrown nail would be and I have to cut them off because they are painful.

If I go out I wear gloves.

Dear Cass1, What type of gloves do you wear when you are out?

I wear nitrile gloves at home to keep my hands and nail beds moist and am now looking for something a little less noticable to wear during the summer.

Any suggestions? Dawn

Dawn, Last summer I wore alot of white tops or white pants, so I wore white cotton gloves that I bought at a surgical supply store.

I also used RIT dye (which comes in many colors) and dyed them in different colors to match tops that I had.
