Jeff Dunham Debut breaks Premiere Record For Comedy Central - NeoGAF
Http://www.multichannel.com/article/...dy_Central.php
Quote: : Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 10/23/2009 5:17:00 PM
Comedy Central scored its highest-rated series bow with the debut of The Jeff Dunham Show Thursday night.
The Oct.
22 launch averaged 5.3 million total viewers, including 3 million adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen data.
The premiere boosted Comedy Central to its highest-rated and most-watched night of the year, according to network officials.
The show was the highest-rated and most-watched show in cable for Thursday prime among adults 18 to 49, as well as men 18 to 34 and guys 18 to 24.
The debut of The Jeff Dunham Show represents a double for the comedian, whose Christmas special last November was Comedy's most-watched show ever with 6.6 million viewers.
Quote: : According to Pollstar, Dunham was the highest-grossing stand-up comic in North America in 2008 with $19.2 million garnered through ticket sales.
Hell with people, I love Achmed the Dead Terrorist

I never found his stand-up funny, I don't connect with the puppet humor.
Surprised he's so popular.

I like most of the puppets.
The Achmed stand-up part on the premiere was probably my favorite.

So that's where Larry the Cable Guy's fans went.

It's at this point i realize...
I haven't watched Comedy Central in months.

His stand up and his show fucking suck.
He's less funny than Carlos Mencia.

I remember him actually being pretty funny when he was younger, but maybe that's just my memory deceiving me.
Either way his stand up is lame now.
I'm not surprised it rated well though.
There are a lot of people who fall for stupid shticks like blue color comedy.
Hokey ventriloquism mixed with safe predictable comedic styling should be right up their alley.

Few are able to sink that low.
It's sad that Comedy Central rewards these hacks.

Yep, Jeff Dunham sucks.
I'm tired of people asking if I've seen his stand up because its "SO FUNNY".

The terrorist and the old guy are the only bits I find funny.
More than that, how did this guy get famous?
Funny or not, he's a terrible ventriloquist.
He doesn't even try to hide that he is talking.

What, seriously? I've had the misfortune of having to sit through several standup segments on youtube that a friend insisted on showing me.
How can that translate into a show?

I saw one of his standups the other day, it looked like he was chewing on something

I can understand why some might find him funny.
That said, when I actually watch his act, I find myself cringing with discomfort at how lame the comedy can be at times.
People will laugh hard at the silliest things, it seems.
This coming from a guy who actually enjoys some blue collar comedy;
Ron White in particular.
But, maybe the show itself is more enjoyable than the stand-up routine?
I haven't seen it.

WEll, he's at least better than Mencia.
I just hope Demetri Martin gets another season, i liked his show.

This guy's commercials are on every fucking weekend.
Every time it's like wtf why won't this guy just have his special and disappear?

I hate Jeff Dunham as an entertainer.
He sucks at comedy and is just okay at ventriloquism, but in combining them he somehow manages to hide his flaws.
As with any comedian (except Carlos Mencia), he has a couple of funny jokes, but most of them just aren't that funny.

"THAT'S GOOD THAT'S GOOD THAT'S G D!"
Yeah, but it's not funny!

Still not funny.

South Park totally needs to do an episode about his shitty puppet comedy.

Caught his routine while doing hw once.
It was the most unfunny thing I've ever seen to get such a big show.

You know what's funny about Larry the Cable Guy is that he's clearly pretty intelligent and has good comedic sensibilities about timing and structure and things like that.
He just sold out as hard as a man can possibly sell out.
And I don't disrespect him for that.
If I was doing run-of-the-mill standup and some agent says "you know, you can make millions of dollars by just doing your redneck character," I would jump at the opportunity.
I wouldn't even think twice about it.
Sometimes entertainment is just a career path.
Not everybody can make money doing art that they're proud of and people respect.
Myself, I fucking love money and envy the dude's ability to make so much of it with the easiest, most one-note character ever.
Making art is very difficult, and making a living at art is goddamn near impossible.
Look at the list of stand-up comedians you respect as artists.
The list is really short and probably includes a couple people who weren't always even that funny, e.g.
George Carlin. Stand-up comedy is a rough business.
Go to an open-mic in Burbank or something.
Try performing at one and see how hard it is to make even 20 people laugh at all .
Then imagine doing that for 5, 10 years before you make enough connections to actually turn it into a career.
It's murder.

Yeah, but generally speaking, prostitutes don't command much respect.

Comedy Central has become to stand up what MTV is to music.

I never understood this.
I keep seeing the tv spots for it during the Daily Show and Colbert and its just plain terribly unfunny.
I mean come on, Poop Jokes?
Hulk Hogan's daughter?
Do people find it funny purely because he uses puppets?
Because you can do intelligent comedy with puppets:

Uh, I don't get the comparison.
Comedy Central is showing a lot more stand up now than they were a few years ago, or at least that's how it seems to me.
It probably has to do with how few movies they show now.

I don't mind Jeff Dunham, but some of his puppets are better than others.
Peanut and Walter are great, Achmed is hit or miss ("I'll kill you!" is overdone), while the redneck, pimp, and jalepeno puppets are boring as hell.

Too many of my friends really like this guy.
I didn't think of it before this thread, but he really might be worse than Carlos Mencia.

I laugh at some of his jokes (which makes him infinitely funnier than Dane Cook) but all his voices sound the same, and all his "characters" are derived from one and only one actual joke, which he then repeats for 5 minutes straight usually with a catch-phrase (Walter: Marriage sucks, Hillbilly: Rednecks are stupid, Achmed: Terrorists are incompetent, etc.) Then there's that purple thing I don't get at all.

I can't believe people constantly send the "Akmed the Terrorist" video to me on facebook saying it's hilarious.

When I first saw him on TV 10+ years ago when he was just doing the Peanut act, it was amazing at the time .
His act has no progressed one step from them other than new puppets.
