GameSpot Forums - PC Hardware Discussion - How hot is too hot for my processor and GPU?

Hey guys, I was just wondering how hot is too hot for my processor and GPU.

I was just playing hears and my 4850 got up to 101c and my Q6600 got to 65c.

This seems really hot and I was just wondering if I should be worried?

I just bumped the fan speed on my GPU from 68 to 78 so that should help a bit with the temp.

Make sure you have excellent air circulation inside your case also make sure that you have a decent power supply to run that stuff.

The're both a bit on the toasty end.

You should try to find a method to cool them down.

What case do you have and how good is the airflow?

That is very hot lol my 9600 gt only goes to 55c when playing games

I only have one fan going in and one going out so I'm not sure if that's enough.

I don't even know if there's room in this case to add more though.

Alright I'll try to get on that this week.

Do you think that would make a significant difference?

Also, to the person commenting about the Power Supply, I using a 700w Thermaltake so I think I'm good as far as that goes.

You really got an oven inside your computer. The radeon 4850 temps are way to high.

My radeon 4850 does not get past 72-73c with some overclock on full load which is the right level for the card. As four your q6600 i dont know, temps are high but if its belower 70c its still safe, but the lifespan might be reduced significatly.

Just raise the fan speeds.

CPU, do a test like prime95, because games never make them go 100%.

I have a feeling it will reach something like 80c.

Hopefully you didn't install the drivers that came on the cd with your card and that you installed the latest ati drivers. Anyway go into overdrive mode unlock it and set the fan to 60-80% while gaming.

By defualt I think it's 25-30% as for the CPU are you using a stock cooler? Also are you over clocking?

Are those the temps when the GPU is cool or when the GPU is around 100C?

Q6600 at 65 is normal but unless you have a 4850 single slot more than 100 it's not
