Be careful shopping with women - Natural Game Forum by Zan Perrion

I worked for 3 years selling men's clothing (business and business casual at Jos.

A Bank and Macy's) and I noticed a disturbing trend among men that shop with their wife/girlfriend/mom/whatever.

The vast majority of women really don't understand men's clothing - the tradition, the fit, the style, the colors, the patterns.

It drove me crazy seeing men bring their wives in to dress them and choose their wardrobe.

The wives would shepherd them around the store picking out many hideous combinations of suits, shirts, and ties, and force them upon the poor unsuspecting man.

I desperately wanted to yell at the guy and tell him to take an interest in his own wardrobe and man up and pick his own clothes.

Some men even just sent their wives shopping for them. I love shopping for clothes with women, but I only ever take their advice as a second opinion, never looking for their approval.

I can't tell you how many times I've ignored a woman's negative opinions on a garment that I knew looked good and fit well, only to have them change their mind after they saw me wear it a week later.

So be careful shopping with women, learn about the tradition of men's clothing and especially the essentials of color coordination and mixing patterns - this applies to any dress code, from casual to business dress to formal black tie.

Never take a woman's opinion as gold just because she is of the fairer sex and is usually more vocal about her opinion ....also, it's just another way to remain a challenge, and women will respect it immensely. I recommend a book called "Dressing the Man: Mastering the Art of Permanent Fashion," and a website, http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com . And also don't forget, being fit and healthy and having good hygiene will ALWAYS be fashionable.

I fully agree with you.

Never let a woman dress you.

I've always found movies to be a great inspiration for clothes. For example American Gigolo and The Untouchables. The lead actors were all styled by Giorgio Armani. The cut and colour combinations of Pierce Brosnan's wardrobe in The Thomas Crown Affair. Brad Pitt's light grey suit in Ocean's 12. Brad Pitt's Black trenchcoat combo in Ocean's 12.

Remember that a women might not want you to become too attractive to the opposite sex and she might "dress you down" because of her jealousy. heard that before

Tried shopping with women a couple of times.

Most of the times I drove them crazy because I wouldn't take any of their suggestions.

A girl picked out a cool hat for me once.

That was the exception to the rule . I take time picking out garments and I can't have a woman distracting me while I'm searching for the right thing. Silence

I agree, although my girlfriend did choose a very nice leather jacket for me as a birthday gift.

I kinda like driving girls crazy.

But I have to agree.

Most of the time I end up drinking coffee etcetera instead of buying what I need.

But that I like also, just to relax and walk through the city with my girl enjoying the sun and the people.

Took a part time job at Banana Republic-- Both those films kinda influenced my wardrobe.

The only things that could be from outside our store, socks, underwear and shoes.... We also had to get worked outfits approved before wearing it at work.

Never received disapproval or the dreaded, visual presentation girls will help you out!

I also got nice shoes comments. I got the job without much of an interview--manager gay guy loved that I came to the interview in suit and tie.

Plus he said I looked hot in this suit!

I've worn it without tie and near same shirt as Pitt in Oceans 11.

I've received compliments from Women in this suit.

Most of all met my former girlfriend in this suit! The original posting is correct, I've seen it myself, and Women do the same with their friends shopping: "hence why they are never 100% confident in a combo that looks good!" It becomes a subconscious thing, must not let friends and boyfriends look good!

My former girlfriend had a big extended family--she also was in an all girls private school.

Weddings galore. Any event that required dressing up.

I was not aloud to wear that suit! Hmmm, I wonder why most good looking guys with girlfriends and husbands always look like douche bags--even nicely dressed!

Okay, that's completly opposite of what I do. I have no eye for color what so ever, so when I go clothing shopping for biz suits, I bring my brother along, guys eye for the color and mine for the style. But for more casual dress, hell, I always bring a girl, most often an old friend, sometimes my sister in law, cos otherwise, well, it be disaster.

Hell, I go to a good store, or chains of them, hand over the old credit card and walk out happy, and dressed.
