Alphabet City • View topic - The Winter Sun can become Brilliant (Mary/Hope/Jules)

Mary could not believe how beautiful her morning walk to work was.

The air was crisp and clean.

The latest wintery blast from Canada pushing in roughly the day before, leaving behind it's chill and yet sweeping away the smog with it.

The Starbuck's line had been a bit long.

Patrons suddenly 'reminded' that it was a good coffee day.

Of course, it was always a good coffee day for Mary. Placing her cup of Peppermint White Mocha on the edge of her desk, Mary slipped her light coat off and hung it on the coat rack in the corner of her office.

She headed around her desk, sweeping the cup back into her hand and taking a quick sip of the liquid that was already beginning to cool.

Mary leaned over her desk, reaching out her long arm to take the letters in her inbox with her free hand.

Continuing to sip her coffee, Mary sorted through her mail.

A letter marked urgent caused her to stop her sorting.

Mary put her Starbuck's cup down.

She hooked her nail into the fold of the envelope, pressing her slender thumb inside to rip open the letter.

When she pulled the letter out and unfolded the document, Mary was thankful that she'd put down her cup of coffee.

It was from the lab, explaining that there had been a mix up in records a month ago.

One of Mary's patients had been misdiagnosed, a mix up with identities.

A lab tech had not gone by the documentation numbers as he was supposed to, and used the names patients that day to sort results.

Only, there was a Julieta Santiago and a Julian Santiago that had came in that week. Mary reached up her hand to cover her lips, a very surprised smile made her lips tremble.

Although, it was sad news for Julian, who was a patient at another doctor's office, it was good news for Jules.

Jules results were negative, she did not have HIV.

Mary quickly reached for the phone, and called the front desk.

Biting on her bottom lip, Mary waited for Alecia to finally answer, "Hi..Alecia...has Hope come into the office, yet?" "Yes, she's right here, Mary.

Do you need her?" Alecia answered, quirking her eyebrows at the odd lilt in Mary's voice as the woman spoke quickly. "Yes, yes...please...I need her to run an errand...it's important," Mary stood up from her chair.

The excitement was sending adrenaline and the caffeine quickly through her body.

Her mind spinning, she knew she needed to call Caroline with the news, as well." "Okay, I'll send her up," came the reply, as Alecia hung up the phone and looked over at Hope.

"Mary needs to see you, and it sounds urgent.

Can you go up and check on her?" Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

Hope had just laid her jacket on the back of her chair when the phone rang.

She could tell right away that it was Mary by the way Alecia listened.

All thoughts were confirmed when Mary's name was uttered out of Alecia's lips and she gave a small smile.

She was about to sit down when Alecia hung up the phone and mentioned Mary needed to see her right away.

Quirking an eyebrow, she nodded.

"Thank-you, Alecia." She made her way up to Mary's office, stopping right outside her door and knocked once.

"Mary? Alecia said you needed to talk to me?", she said, turning the knob on the door and pushing it open.

The minute that the door open, Mary swung her hips around the corners of the desk and made her way over to Hope.

She stretched out her willowy arms and took her young friend into her arms to hug her.

Although Mary had barely gotten to know Jules, she knew how much Hope and Caroline thought of the young Hispanic teenager.

Jules was a part of her 'family', not only through the Center but through two people very close to Mary, "Your not going to believe this!" "I need you to go get Jules," Mary took Hope's shoulders in her hands, and gave her a half serious look and half silly grin.

"I would call, but I know Mob Ink's phone is currently off line.

I have incredible news..and it can't wait." Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

As soon as Hope walked through the door, she was enveloped in a big hug by Mary.

When Alecia said it sounded urgent she didn't think Mary wanted her to walk all the way up there just to give her a hug.

Although it would have been nice to get a hug for no apparent reason.

"Get Jules? Good news?

Woah, Mary. It must be good with that look upon your face." Mary was the one always bringing good news to her, but to bring Jules into this meant one thing.

"Oh! Get Jules! Right."

"Yes..now. Because I can't tell you what it is until she says it's ok," Mary was fussing inside her head at the whole confidentiality agreement.

Although, it was a wonderful thing most of the time.

At others it was very difficult to follow.

She was sure that Jules would want Hope to know, but Mary had to respect Jules and leave that right to her, "Hurry, I don't have any scheduled appointments for several hours, because of paperwork.

So, now is the perfect time.

And when you get back, don't worry about knocking...just drag her in here." Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

Hope giggled at the dragging Jules into the office part and nodded as she made her way out the door and down to the desk where she grabbed her jacket, and waved to Alecia on the way out.

All the way to the apartment, she was wondering what it was that Mary had to Jules and right away too.

It must have been very good news if Mary wanted to see her now and not later. Before she knew it she was at the apartment and ran up the stairs, taking them two at a time.

She bounded through the door, kicking it closed behind her and walked over to the bed, sitting down on it.

"Jules, Sunshine, wake up my Hooker.

We need to go somewhere."

Mary was glad that Hope didn't ask any more questions, and quickly headed out to go get Jules.

She knew if anyone knew where Jules would be at this hour, it would be Hope.

Sitting back down at her desk, Mary picked up the document more time and continued to grin.

Her gaze fluttered about the paper, reading the stats all one more time.

Upon rereading her birthday, Mary realized that it was just a couple days after Caroline's.

It would be a perfect birthday gift.

That is, if Jules took this whole mix up well.

It rarely happened.

In fact, Mary could only think of one other time that this had occurred.

And as with this incident, the person was disciplined.

They were handling lives here.

Many lives who took their own out of desperation, when they received the news.

This wasn't a game. Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

Jules had been curled around the stuffed Bugs Bunny that Caroline had given her upon getting her HIV test done.

Her blankets curled about her legs, and dark wavy hair disheveled about her pillow and shoulders.

She was in a deep sleep, the sound of the kicked door never alerting her.

But, the sound of Hope's voice seemed to call up from the depths of her dreams.

Jules replied in her half dreamy state, "Mmmmnn no..I no desean hacer pivotar ahora." Jules -20-tattoo artist-lesbian taking a risk

Hope giggled at Jules reply and laid herself on her side of the bed.

One hand went to Jules shoulder to shake her a bit as she giggled the whole time.

"C'mon, Sleepyhead.

There's a surprise waiting for you at the Center.

Mary needs to talk to and she sounds really excited about it.

Sunshine, the day is calling," she replied, smiling, waiting patiently for Jules to wake up.

(( please excuse hiccup in story, as board went a little wonky for a few days.

Shoves continuity freak self into a box.

)) Mary fought the urge to just walk over and give Jules and Hope a big hug, instead she kept her professional demeanor in tact.

She walked over and placed her hand gently upon Jule's shoulder to lead her over to the sitting area off to the side in her office, "Please, why don't you both sit down.

Jules, do you mind if Hope sits in on the news?

It's good news, I just know she's anxious to know what is up, too." Jules shrugged one shoulder, letting Mary take them over to the chairs, "Yeah, sure.

I guess I don't mind.

She has a way of finding out things anyway." She offered Hope an unsure smirk, trying to keep things light hearted on her end. Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

Hope sat herself down in her own chair.

"I do happen to find out a lot of things, but that happens you know.

I do happen to listen." She patted Jules arm before turning her full attention to Mary.

"Now that you got us here, Mary, what is it that you have to tell her...us?"

"I received a letter from the lab this morning that I think you should read, Jules," Mary reached over to a folded piece of paper that sat on the edge of her desk, and brought it over to the chairs.

She held it out to Jules to take, then sat down in her own chair.

Crossing her legs, Mary placed her hands folded on her lap.

"I have only received on other letter like this one, since I joined the Center." Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

Jules sat down, becoming quiet for the moment as she listened to the two of them.

She shot Hope a glance, when she said something about listening.

She quirked a crooked smile for a second, her face falling serious as she took the paper from Mary.

The lab? How can that be any good.

Unfolding the letter, Jules began to read the lines.

They had messed up, an accidental switch.

She was negative.

Jules dark blues shifted up quickly from the letter to Mary, "I'm clear?

I mean...I don't have it?!

Is this serious?" Jules -20-tattoo artist-lesbian taking a risk

Hope watched Jules face until Jules looked up at Mary.

"What? No way," she replied, grabbing the letter out of Jules' hands.

She quickly read it over herself and she couldn't believe it.

Jules was negative and this other person was positive.

They had messed up.

"Oh...my...God."

"That's what it says.

I'm really sorry for the mix up.

I know that's hard to go through, they are taking corrective action at the Lab.

This is just something that they need to be careful of.

But, I am so happy that you do not have HIV, and I know Caroline and Angel will want to know, too," as hard as everything was on Jules, Mary was glad that she could get this news to her.

It was an unfortunate mistake, that might have cost more lives on Julian's end.

It could have even brought apart devastating consequences for Jules.

But, now the young woman could get a new start on life, and take this as a hard lesson learned. Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

"I so can't fucking believe this," Jules was starting to come out of her temporary stupor.

She was too stunned still to be mad.

The added relief that her life wasn't going to end as soon as she thought, helped, too.

"Shit...so..I'm clean...I mean...this fucking rocks.

Yeah...I gotta tell Angel and Caroline.

So...what does this mean..I mean..no more meds, right?" Jules -20-tattoo artist-lesbian taking a risk

Hope looked back to the letter with a smile.

Now she wouldn't have to watch over her friend as much as she use to.

Watching Jules wasn't really any fun and now she could go and find Allen more often that she didn't have to watch Jules face or body language for any sign of change in her.

This was a good day for everybody.

Everybody but the Julian person.

"Why would you continue taking meds if you were negative, Silly?" She threw the paper into Jules lap.

"You'll stop the meds, but know that your still free to come by and have sessions with me.

This changes your HIV status, but not what you went through," Mary said, still concerned that some of this might have a negative reaction on Jules.

She could suddenly burn out of control, thinking she was invincible again.

Or she could still suffer from a depression.

"My door is always open to you and your Center status as a patient doesn't really change.

We want to be there for you, if ever you need to talk or help." "Besides, your a friend.

We can't let you go so easily," Mary winked at Jules.

Then shot a happy glance over at Hope.

She knew that Hope was just as happy, it eased some of Mary's younger friend's worries.

Hope would no longer feel she had to be Jules' caretaker. Mary -32-Psychiatrist- Married - One Child

"I know, I just figured that the meds ..well...wanted to make sure I could stop them," Jules stuck her tongue out at Hope.

Suddenly, her whole body demeanor changed, and Jules seemed relaxed and back to her 'I'm too damn cool' self.

"Shit, you know this changes so much.

I don't have to feel like a leper or anything." Jules smirked, "Course, it means I need to watch and make sure this doesn't happen again.

Move slower...which will probably be easier now.

I swear I'm a fuckin' virgin by now." Jules -20-tattoo artist-lesbian taking a risk

Hope snorted at Jules words, which eventually turned to full out laughter.

"Oh, Jules. You really don't know how funny that is coming out of your mouth." She knew if she kept it up, Jules would get even with her eventually, but it was so damn funny that she just couldn't stop laughing.

Those words coming out of Jules' mouth was something she thought she'd never hear.
