Bethany Discussion Forums - View topic - Who was thinking of bringing beanie babies to the kids?

Tracy, was that you guys?

Did you ever bring the beanie babies for the kids at Gelgela and YM?

How did that go? Or was that someone else?

I'm putting together a small package for our sponsored child and thinking about including a beaniebaby for her.

I know Tracy brought a bag full of stuffed animals to Gelgela.

The second time we visited she saw them hanging from the ceiling like mobiles.

Hope that helps! Kelly Blessed beyond words, Kelly DH-Dan DS-15,6 DD-11,10,10,10 Selom,Sophonias, and Dibora home 1/24/09, Ours forever! John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans;

I will come to you. http://genglerexpansionproject.blogspot.com/

Yes Kelly's right.

We never saw any of the beanies on the beds for the kids to snuggle with.

They became mobiles.

If that works for them, that's fine with us.

When we gave our donations, the donations were given to the administrators, not to the children directly. One thing that would have been helpful to us would have been to separate out our donations to each of the places (Gelgela, Transition home, YM) before travelling.

We had everything hodge-podged together. Overall, I was pleased to bring donations...I thought we brought quite a bit of stuff...but I wished I could have double or tripled the amount that we gave away.

Very interesting....

About the beanie baby mobiles!

Who would've thought?

Maybe it is the only way for them to ensure that they stay "clean" in orphanages..

For health reasons maybe?

I know some orphanages request that you don't give stuffed animals for health reasons.

I'm just wondering if a child who isn't in an orphanage would like something like that to snuggle/play with.

Hmmmm.. I guess I'll have to think about it!

"One thing that would have been helpful to us would have been to separate out our donations to each of the places (Gelgela, Transition home, YM) before travelling.

Can you give me an idea of what to put in each tote?

I am wondering if I should split up the clothes, blankets and toys that I already have.

Are the children all different ages at both orphanges?

And, can anyone remember the new orphanage that the children are coming from. My goal is to take 4 35 gallon totes.

I know it will be expensive to take with us.

But, I know it will get there and I may only have the opportunity to do this once.

I am sure the Lord will provide what we need to ship them Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I remember the picture that the last families posted showing the large plastic tubs packed for the trip.

How does that work?

Can THEY be counted as suitcases and not be an extra charge?....or is that a completely different "beast"? How much to bring a tub?

I am assuming they need to be 50 lbs or less too, right?

The totes would be extra.

I think 70 lbs is the limit.

Those 35 gallon totes can hold quite a bit.

I heard that it costs about $280 to send a tote along.

I have heard a couple families were able to get the airlines to let them take all of their containers but only pay the cost of one (one family took 7 and paid $180 for all of them).

Something to think about.

H ...I wonder if those families "wheeled and dealed" ahead of time.

I would suppose. ...and "MWolski" I saw your beautiful Enat necklace on your blog -- could you tell me/us where you got it?

I would Loooove to have one too -- if you don't mind me copying you!

Yes, the families did have assistance with the deal from their travel agents, except for one, she called the airline and worked it out. I think EVERYONE here needs to have an Enat charm!!!!

My daugther asked me today to find her one that says sister....it made my heart happy They can be found at www.etsy.com .

If you just put Enat in the search box, it comes up.

It is just the charm, you will need to add the necklace piece, but well worth the $14
