Apple - Support - Discussions - Itunes won't recognize Ipod Touch ...

Hi all, After the recent update to iTunes 8.2, my iPod Touch doesn't appear under Devices in iTunes anymore.

Windows can detect it just fine and I have also tried to plug in an older iPod and that was detected in iTunes too. Any ideas what to do?

I have tried reinstalling iTunes but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. edit: my iPod Touch is the first gen and I haven't updated to 3.0 software.

It's the one before. Message was edited by: jonathanc81   Windows Vista   64 bit

Is this because I have not updated the software to 3.0? I have restored my iPod and now re-syncing it again.

This is the second time I am doing this.

The first time I was lazy and selected the backup option and then it didn't work. So this time I am doing everything manually which is taking a long time but hopefully this issue will be resolved.   Windows Vista   64 bit

Right, a full reinstallation of iTunes didn't seem to help.

(I have the latest version - 8.2) The restore thing works once.

Itunes can see the ipod but if I plug it out and back in, it doesn't recognize it.

Itunes will just freeze for a minute or so but can't detect the ipod. I plug my old iPod and its recognized after a few seconds.

So I think this only effects Ipod touch somehow. Any ideas at all?

:< Edit: I also noticed that now Vista won't recognize the ipod as well. Message was edited by: jonathanc81   Windows Vista   64 bit

Itunes will open when I plug in my Ipod touch.

The charge icon is shown in Ipod touch as well.

However, I just can't see ipod touch under devices. Now even Vista can't detect my ipod touch... I checked services and Apple Mobile Device is started.

However, under Device Manager >

Universal Serial Bus controllers I don't see the ipod, only my external card reader. Everything was working fine until I updated my Itunes to 8.2... :< Message was edited by: jonathanc81   Windows Vista   64 bit

Found something interesting. In my C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\ path I seem to be missing the Driver folder.

I only have bin, etc, Frameworks, and Syncservices. Should I have a Drivers folder?   Windows Vista   64 bit

Alright, somehow if I power on and off my ipod while plugged in iTunes will detect it.

However, if I disconnect it and reconnect again, it wont. Any ideas? "Amazing" support so far btw...   Windows Vista   64 bit

When i upgraded my itunes to 8.2, my ipod touch stopped working on itunes.

When i plug it in it says it cannot be read and that i need to restore it.

This is not an option for me, as i have a new lap top after the old one died, so i have no songs on it, so if i wipe the ipod, i lose thousands of songs and videos that i will not get back.

I tried reinstalling itunes, but that didn't work.

I tried it on a different computer (a friend's) and it worked fine, but as soon as the other computer was upgraded to 8.2, it stopped working on that one too. acer A8930   Windows Vista

Right... now my Ipod touch can't even restore!

I tried restore it by pressing Power + Home button.

It rebooted with the USB cable pointing to iTunes logo. I plugged it in and iTunes detected the ipod and says that it needs to be restored etc etc.

However, nothing happens...

I finally got the Error "1611". It linked me to an Apple support webpage but honestly that didn't help much... Gah...

I am so frustrated now.

If I didn't already buy hundreds of songs through iTunes I would have just gotten myself another player...   Windows Vista   64 bit

Is it just me or is the ipod support site completely s****???

I've tried and tried to find a simple way to get help from a staff member, but i cna't find one.

All i want is to be bale to email some one about the problem and have them reply.

Its no good letting everyone sit around having the same problem with no solution.

I can't get anything to work here, and i'm getting really p****d off at the lack of quality of the support site on itunes. acer A8930   Windows Vista

It's not just you mate...

Their customer service is really bad... I tried restoring on my laptop which runs a 32 bit XP and it went ok... I guess it's a Vista 64 bit issue then and Apple just don't give a **** as usual since not many people uses 64 bit OS...   Windows Vista   64 bit

Right...seems like 64bit Vista won't even recognize the ipod but my 32 bit laptop see's it fine... The irony is all my purchases, music, playlists etc is on my 64 bit Vista!!!

It was all working fine until I updated to iTunes 8.2...   Windows Vista   64 bit

My computer makes two wierd beeping noises when i connect my ipod and it doesnt charge or connect to itunes any ideas?   Windows XP

The bleeping noises or rather two beeps means that the ipod is plugged into your PC through USB.

I have the noise too but nothing happens.

This means that your OS can't detect iPod properly. I really hope someone from Apple's technical support frequent these forums.

What's the point of having a forum when there's no help present?   Windows Vista   64 bit
