Get Healthy Challenge - Health & Fitness, Health Information, and Special Needs - Health & Home - Ditto - Message Board - Yuku

Get Healthy challenge I was just thinking that it would be cool to have a thread where we can post on our healthy accomplishments for the day and hopefully we can motivate each other..

A challenge thread, if you will. We can post whatever we did that day, whether it be the amount and/or type of exercise we did, if we ate healthy that day, how much our water consumption was (Julia you can skip the water part ) and post our weight loss or inches lost whenever we have results to share.. It doesn't have to be a thread you post in each day, but can if you would like to. Alternatively you could post the day after..

I.e. Yesterday, I ... Maybe we can motivate each other!

I need ALL the help I can get Honestly as far as drinking water, I can't stand the stuff .

However, I realize how important it is in so many ways, and as I am on a journey to become healthier, I must try to push myself and just grin and bear it. Okay so I will start.. Yesterday I consumed 8 cups of water!

It was the first time that I can remember ever drinking the recommended 8 cups of water.

I was so proud of myself!

It wasn't easy by the way. Now, to start on today's water.

Yay. *Edit to change the title and add to the challenge goals Last Edited By: chellebell02 13 Feb, 2009 4:00 PM.

Great idea! It's 3:30 pm and I've only had 1 glass so far.

I'll be back later, hopefully with a bigger number! chellebell02 #2 [-] Posts : 5513 (13 Feb, 2009 2:01 AM) Ditto Belle Moderator

I'm glad you think so Lyndsey It's 7:59 pm and I have had 6 glasses so far.

I really must try to get those last 2 glasses in. Julia333 #3 [-] Posts : 64635 (13 Feb, 2009 2:19 AM) Administrator

Good idea, Michelle, but I hate water and really don't want to drink any more. I'd like a similar thread entitled Lose Weight Challenge, or Get More Exercise Challenge.

Then we'd be talking! chellebell02 #4 [-] Posts : 5514 (13 Feb, 2009 2:28 AM) Ditto Belle Moderator

What a great idea Julia!

Get More Exercise Challenge sounds good, and maybe we could also post any results [i.e.

Weight loss] there too, what do you think? Motivation, motivation, motivation! LyndseyKK #5 [-] Registered Member Posts : 1392 (13 Feb, 2009 12:27 PM)

How about combine the 3 into one topic and we can report on all 3 in one reply each day. I was bad yesterday - only had 2 glasses of water. chellebell02 #6 [-] Posts : 5517 (13 Feb, 2009 3:51 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

I was bad yesterday - only had 2 glasses of water.

- Lyndsey I have had many of those days, some of which I drank no water at all! Yesterday I had 6 glasses of water, never finished the last two. So far today I have had 2 glasses. How about combine the 3 into one topic and we can report on all 3 in one reply each day.

- Lyndsey Good idea, like maybe change it to a...

Get Healthy Challenge?

Then we can post whatever we did that day, whether it be the amount and/or type of exercise we did, if we ate healthy that day, how much our water consumption was (Julia you can skip the water part ) and post our weight loss/ or inches lost whenever we have results to share..

I like it! I will just change this topic's name and add the other challenges to the lead post! chellebell02 #7 [-] Posts : 5518 (13 Feb, 2009 4:09 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

Yesterday [Day 4 for me] I did a cardio work out for 30 minutes and then did some strength training exercises for another 30 minutes.

I have been keeping up with my calorie intake as well.

So here are my results from yesterday. Exercise total - 1 hour Calorie total - 1344 I don't weigh myself each day instead I weigh myself weekly, so since I started this past Monday, I will weigh this coming Monday and will share my results then. Ohhhh, I like this thread much more now it isn't restricted to yucky water! Actually, the water's a good thing too 'cos I know it helps control hunger pangs and speeds up metabolism, so I'm going to make an effort to drink more of it anyway (with stuff in it like coffee and tea ). This is really gonna motivate me!

Riiiight, on my way to skip some more!

I've only done a one 100 skip session and need to do lots more!

After that I'll put my Slendertone on as I do some work at my PC. Thanks for the motivation, Michelle!

Good luck everyone! chellebell02 #9 [-] Posts : 5521 (13 Feb, 2009 4:21 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

I'm so glad you like it Julia!

Your welcome for the motivation, and I will get motivation from you guys too! Also, I have found that if I can write down what I do I am more accountable to myself, so hopefully this thread can serve as self motivation for us as well!! Good luck to you and everyone else too! I went to the gym today and did my usual 40 minutes or so of weights...

And then, thanks to you Michelle, I did cardio (for like maybe the 4th time in 9 months?) and I did a full 30 minutes!

After I was done, I said to my husband, "there's 275 calories I can put towards a dessert tomorrow night!" I don't know how much water I had today - not much at all except what I drank while I was at the gym. chellebell02 #11 [-] Posts : 5533 (14 Feb, 2009 3:13 AM) Ditto Belle Moderator

Good Job Lyndsey!! LOL at the dessert for tomorrow night! Sometimes a little motivation goes a long way, at least for me it does! Today I did upper body strength training for about 30 minutes and only did about 15 minutes of cardio (better than nothing I guess).

The routine I did yesterday kicked my butt and I was SO sore today..

That it made it hard for me to do anymore. I have been doing really good on my calories though.

The problem I have is making sure that I am eating enough calories, I guess it's just because most of my life I have been programmed to think when I am dieting that I shouldn't eat that much at all.

It is kind of like breaking a habit, you might say.

I do the 5 small meals and it's really a strange thing because in my head I feel like it is soooo wrong to be eating so often...

Almost like I am programmed to think that in order to lose weight I must feel starved.

I have learned though that it is important to feed my body so that it won't go into 'starvation' mode and to feed it the right foods.

My goal is to make it a lifestyle change so I won't be dieting on and off, losing then gaining it back..ect..

Again, motivation is key for me! I had 7 glasses of water today.

I have never in my life drank so much water, I may just float away Lyndsey, when you lift weights do you break it into separate days for separate areas i.e.

Upper body, lower body ect..?

I know not to work the same muscle group 2 days in a row, but I was just wondering if how I am doing it is ok, Like yesterday I worked on my lower body and today I worked on my arms/shoulders..

Just curious. Again, great job Lyndsey!! LyndseyKK #12 [-] Registered Member Posts : 1394 (14 Feb, 2009 4:13 AM)

I work on arms and shoulders one day, back and chest another, and legs another.

On any of those days, I'll throw in abs whenever I feel like it (although I should probably be doing abs every time).

I very very rarely go to the gym 2 days in a row...

But if I did, one of the days would be legs.

I don't want to work arms/shoulders and back/chest one after the other because the same muscles must be somewhat involved even though the focus is different.

And sometimes, when it's arms or back/chest day, I will also do some wall sits or walking lunges just to get some extra legs in.

I have a big problem with my knees and they are better if I keep my legs strong. chellebell02 #13 [-] Posts : 5567 (14 Feb, 2009 6:27 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

Wall sits are something else!

I remember doing those at gym in school, they were very challenging and painful!

My legs had the shakes for a couple of days! I have recently learned about wall push ups and though they seem easy enough they are quite challenging too!

I like them better though than floor push ups.

Maybe when my strength increases some I can do the floor ones better. I am taking a break today from any strenuous workout, I plan on doing some stretching though and if the weather clears up here, Jacob (my son) and I may take a walk. I ordered a new Pilates DVD on Thursday, I hope it comes soon.

I find that the more I vary my routines the better chance that I will stick with it.

I have done pilates a couple of times before and I liked it a lot.

I hope this one is worth my time (and money). So far I have had only 1 glass of water.

I guess I am having an one of those days! LyndseyKK #14 [-] Registered Member Posts : 1395 (14 Feb, 2009 6:42 PM)

I haven't done push-ups in a few months.

That's something I used to occasionally do on "legs" day, just to get an extra arm/chest workout in.

I'm sure I can't do a man's push-up these days, but I ought to be able to do some modified/women's push ups.

Maybe I'll do some later today. Water count so far: zero Michelle, how old is Jacob? chellebell02 #15 [-] Posts : 5568 (14 Feb, 2009 7:44 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

Oh I definitely know I can't do a man's push up!

The modified ones I can do but still is quite hard.

I really need to work on my upper body strength the most! Lyndsey, Jacob is 8 years old, he will be 9 in April [hard for me to believe]. Water count so far: zero Mine is still the same as above, one. LyndseyKK #16 [-] Registered Member Posts : 1396 (15 Feb, 2009 4:20 AM)

I just tried the push-ups - I collapsed on #10. Still no water.

I had some at dinner, and I had some with lunch but I don't think the two of them combined even added up to one glass. chellebell02 #17 [-] Posts : 5574 (15 Feb, 2009 11:27 PM) Ditto Belle Moderator

Even the modified ones are hard, lol!

Heck, even the wall ones are challenging for me but, I was able to increase the number of reps I can do so I think I must be getting a little stronger at least.. Day 7 (for me) Today I did 25 minutes of cardio and then worked on my arms and shoulders for about 30 minutes.

I also did an ab routine from one of my DVDs, it was about 10 minutes long and it felt like an hour! So far today I have had 4 glasses of water, not sure I will make my goal, but did better than yesterday when I had only 2 glasses. Julia333 #18 [-] Posts : 64784 (16 Feb, 2009 2:54 PM) Administrator

Well done, both of you! I went back to my old exercise thread to find this link for you HERE which calculates calories burned for different activities.

I discovered from it that skipping burns the most calories which is why skipping is practically the only exercise I've been doing.

I don't have time to waste on exercise that burns less, which makes me wonder why I bought the exercise bike.

Up to last week I'd managed to do 90 skips (90 seconds, i.e.

1 1/2 minutes which are easy to add up) in one go.

I then increased to 100 skips and over the past 2 days to 120 skips (2 minutes).

I've lost the pound I put on last week and also inches from using my Slendertone daily. I've even make an effort to drink at least 2 glasses of water a day with a bit of cordial in it to make it bearable. VirgoAnnie #19 [-] Posts : 2847 (16 Feb, 2009 8:07 PM) Celtic Queen

Julia. The exercise bike is good for toning the muscles up after you loose the weight.

To stop you going flabby. I bought a swing stepper last summer, but am unable to use it at the moment, because it made my knee worse.

It may have even been the cause of it in the first place. Lynsey.

Just read your post.

Do you think your bad knees could be caused by all the exercise you do?

I was fit and healthy until i started to go to aerobics twice a weak, now i have trouble with my knee.
