Indeed it should do, I think it would be interesting for you to look at the VWSP not just the spot price on your trades get the price, if exists, with mininum....

Magento uses a different price type for each type of product (Simple, Config, Group, etc)
Hope this helps.
In the Product/View folder - price.phtml, price_clone.phtml, tierprices.phtml
Read through them.
