I was browsing the web and my command prompt window popped up for a split second and i thought i saw it say "copy file" or something to that effect, then a minute or 2 later it popped up again and under the first "copy file" it put a second one right ...

Here's the problem-
I've got an Optiplex 740 running Windows XP SP3, and it's joined to a domain-- after you power it on, it goes through POST, goes thru the Windows XP logo booting screen... the screen blanks... mouse pointer shows up... then NOTHING...

I suggest Avast Antivirus for virus and trojans and Malwarebytes, Spybot, and/or Ad of virus infection, but also....
Pull the hard drive and toss it into another computer for a full virus and malware scan.
Of suggestions if you can:

You can also enter.
For more info on available Recovery Console commands, enter Help at the prompt.
At the command prompt, use
the DISABLE command to shut off the services required to start your AV program.

Are Linux systems so secure that they cannot be infected by virus ? Do we really require anti-virus for linux ? Why windows get more virus attacks? Is the windows less secure than Linux ?

When it comes to Mac antivirus, you tread a fine line between of protection .
Not saying that there never would it's too late to start using anti-virus.
Their Macs adversely affected by a virus or malware is zero.
