There are some beautiful beaches south of Tulum.
Also, we haven't had a chance to visit but did some research .

We have been told to fly into Phoenix and rent a car to drive to Puerto Penasco. We will be staying at the Mayan Palace there. From other people, we are hearing that driving from Phoenix to PP is not safe. They say that bandits confront you on the highway...

We love Puerto from a week camping in Puerto Penasco....
The road is decent but do drive carefully.

There is no malaria in PP and the risk....
They don't get that way messing with tourists.
The DR has the most hotel rooms of any country in the Caribbean .
