We have been told to fly into Phoenix and rent a car to drive to Puerto Penasco. We will be staying at the Mayan Palace there. From other people, we are hearing that driving from Phoenix to PP is not safe. They say that bandits confront you on the highway...

We love Puerto from a week camping in Puerto Penasco....
The road is decent but do drive carefully.
I have heard of a Mercedes Benz fleet of limos that will drive you down to Puerto Penasco for a fee many times by herself It is very safe.

Can someone help provide some help as to where exactly we would go in the airport to pay for our cab fare and then catch a cab down to Secrets? I just want to make sure I don't inadvertently end up dealing with time share people. Thanks!

After escaping from the Timeshare Shark Tanks (there are two) in the lobby of the airport you'll see... .
At that point you can get a cab (white one) to take you to your destination .
Just keep walking through the airport past the sharks and to the exit door .
