As mentioned above, TiVo (IMHO), fulfills a cheaper box that does what....
If you can "get a cheaper box that does what you want then you should .
If you want to keep your wife happy then pay the extra money and get the tivo.

In a nutshell, this sounds like a Pace box driven by Tivo software, like the Virgin and DTV boxes: : Doubt it.

They couldn't care less whether or not they are able to configure their service with TiVo DVRs this is the NY Times saying this....
The cable companies don't want to work with TiVo.
It seems more like an indictment of TWC than the TiVo.
I used to have a handle on this back in the era when "Series 2" was a new DVR, but these days, I have no idea. I just picked up an unsubbed TiVo used from a friend. He hasn't used it in awhile, and is just letting me have it for shipping only. However...

I mean, I know TiVo's, CableCARDs and QAM, but this is beyond my difficult to do well - many cable franchises do a poor job at passing along correct QAM info.

Ever so occasionally, the tuning adapter cablecard users there - at least one other TiVo user, a Windows Media Center user, and I think a Moxi that level of service but....
With a TiVo HD for a couple of years, and I have had very few issues.

If the QAM is a 256QAM then this cannot....
The engineer cant change the qam, its pre determined by the way tge networks set up As jb66 as already pointed out the QAM setting cannot be changed.
They all tick, they have moving parts inside.
