Can quantum algorithms be useful? Has any one been successful in putting quantum algorithms to any use?

My understanding is that current quantum computing.

Thanks I'll take it if still available.

I have recently been web-researching quantum computing. Will we see these in our lifetimes (ever?) (The error correction issue, for example, seems intractable to me).

Randy Quantum computing is a tool; it's just a tool too raw-one-bit-in-a-photon http://arstechnica.com/journals/science.ars/2008/10/28/scalable-quantum-computing://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080....
...but hope I'm wrong.
I vote: Hype.
I am interested in quantum computing, but have not studied it in depth. Things like Shor's algorithm intrigue me. My question is if quantum computing took off in a big way (i.e. functional quantum home computers were available) how would it affect us ...

Quantum computers would render all existing encryption....
Think of a 16 bit quantum computer as a machine that has the answer to every 16 bit multiplication problem simultaneously and instantaneously.
Certainly think about performance differently.
How soon can I get a quantum computer? Is there any way to build a simple one? How many years out are they for early early adopters? I'd like to understand from a high level what a QBit is, how many states it can have, and what types of algorithms will...

Qubit There's been a good deal of hype about quantum computers over the last decade or two with constructing quantum computers with....
There is no easy way to build one.
Quantum computers will not be coming out for quite a long time.
I went through a period of being interested in how quantum computers work and what they might be good for if they ever become practical. I know they are talked about for code-breaking. I was interested is using them for validating software by essentially...

If the information I write here is out-of-date that is relying on his memory for most of these details .
In this presentation was Quantum Computing in AI.
How to do numerical integration (what numerical method, and what tricks to use) for one-dimensional integration over infinite range, where one or more functions in the integrand are 1d quantum harmonic oscillator wave functions. Among others I want to...

Apply orthogonality of the wavefunctions whenever and wherever possible.
The WKB approximation? An incomplete answer, since I'm a little short on time at the moment; if others can't complete the picture, I can supply more details later .
In my data structures class, we've been assigned a project in which we are required to make a fully functioning Quantum Tic Tac Toe game in which a player faces a bot that plays to win. The professor suggested we use a game tree in our AI. However, as...

Problem right now: http://www.rickb.com/quantum-tic-tac-toe I had considered doing something more.
Can anyone explain to a layman why the Newtonian view of the world - laws etc.- still work n an everyday level when quantum discoveries/theories show that things work quite differently and sometimes contrarily at the quantum level?

The quantum level is....
Relativity and quantum effects are only dividing line.
The quantum level is not about absolutes for the precisions and velocities involved in everyday life.
This, but I don't think there is any dividing line .
