If you're intent on 2GB RAM, you may have to spend a little more... .
I recommend ASUS' netbook offerings, particularly the Eee PC EPC1000HE , which has garnered fantastic reviews all around .
Those specs with a decent processor should be sufficient to run VS .
Hopefully this is not considered "Not programming related"... I'm an experienced C/C++/Java programmer (Also many others, but not relevant) and I'm trying to program for a mac. I've tried learning things piecemeal by looking things up as I need them online...

In my experience, YAP is quite a good implementation....
The SWI-Prolog C++ interface is good, especially because SWI-Prolog itself is so good .
I'd stick with SWI-Prolog.
While there are bunch of rules engines out there for Java, I'm not aware of any for C++ .

It is also very configurable so you can choose what to audit, and has nice reports with SSRS .
Works well, uses server-side tracing and sends trace files to a central db server and has anti-tampering hashing too .

I have never had any problems ....
It allows you to specify the HTML and Text parts of the body, add attachments and pretty much gives you full control over the email you are sending .
I use the HTML Mime Mail class whenever I need to send email using PHP .

Try JCode for java and CodeLite for C++ Code::Blocks is a pretty nice C++ IDE for a low resolution screen .
You could use some light editor like Notepad++ and a command line compiler .
Well Visual Studio is out of question :).
