I have tried CamStudio, but it's throwing errors. Any other good free software I should try?

It's a little recursive though - it would be better to capture it from source .
Check out http://showmedo.com for tutorials.
I've had success with Camtasia / CamStudio.

Is there a way to record the screen, either desktop or window, using .NET technologies.

I want to record my screen to video, but the software I have tried causes the computer to lag. Is there any software that will capture the screen without causing the lag while it records?
By lag I mean it seems like the software is just constantly pressing...

It's likely you're going to have some problems with lag if you're recording full screen real time.
The only way to avoid this completely.
There will be some overhead with any software based screen capture.
