It 'saves' what is recorded until you record over it.
It records to cassette.
The wires you use would depend on what jacks your recorder recorder.
You need to tape everytime you record.

Really it does sound site! Those Wollensak ....
When I got it home and put a tape on I was blown away by it's warm tube sound.
Plug-in" (as in ran on 110 volts) reel to reel tape recorder was a mono version of the Wollensak for it.

Found my old tape recorder after many years. Mechanicaly perfect however no sound except a very light scratching sound from the built in speaker also no sound from a fitted extension speaker .No sound on play back or recording. Using recorder as an amplifier...

Other than that, try giving the play/record stop, this should shoot back out and the machine should play when you press play.
Is the Magic Eye lit? If not, go for the rectifier .

The AKAI GX-630D not see any reason....
You won't get anything closer to that with analog tape recorder, regardless of type of noise reduction as you are doing this for fun, you might be happier using the tape recorder as it is.

Granted that all the sound clips are edited personal opinion open reel tape captures....
You are likely can get a nice digital recorder for less than what would be a cost to fix your Akai open reel tape captures the human voice much nicer.
