Last I checked trying to use... .
So it depends on the type of Cert you buy (or the setup of your certification service) .
I think the Cerficate Supplier sets the renewal period.

If your certificate authority is not requiring a certificate request, then they must be re-using the old one .
If you generate a new request, that'll generate a new key .
If you re-use the same certificate request, the key will not change .

I recently had to do this very same thing, and the way I did it was I had to remove the current certificate completely, then add a new certificate fresh, otherwise, I could not figure out how to update the CSR from 1024 to 2048, which is now a requirement... .

Just got a notice that the provisioning profile for one of my apps is about to expire. Is there some way I can renew the existing one or must I recreate a new one?

On Provisioning, clicked on the "Renew" button next to my Profile, the status changed from 'expired' to 'pending if the renew button only appeared when the profile expired? I've a profile that will expire soon, but no "renew" button....
