I keep finding myself lengthening between med school and residency.
I say do what you need to do to prepare yourself for residency.

I know that this residency shortage is bad for everyone involved. I believe all who finish school should have a residency come graduation.
Some people on this forum are warning the pre-pods as well they should.
However, the warnings should go to the incoming...

The fact that I love what I do helps tremendously, but overall, I just can't complain... .
No matter where you end up for residency, there is a certain, quantifiable amount of "suck residency specialty, I think we have a phenomenal quality of life.

For Pharmacists who are interested in going into Academia, will any type of PGY1 residency suffice or is there a particular residency usually preferred?

Does age matter? Or just your health matters? Have you seen surgeons starting their residency in the 40-45 age range? Will it be harder to get accepted for residency at this age range?

Neuro is 2 years more than the regular 5-year residency in surgery, right? I'm 28 and in you position residency in surgery, right? You've got quite a ways to go, you might not even want to do surgery when part of the residency committee....

If a resident who is a PGY 3 leaves a residency program at the end of the year, is it legal for the program to fill it with a PGY 2 if they cannot get a PGY 3 or a PGY1?
