What do the rings actually look like to the naked eye, in particular as you get closer?
I know that the pics shown online tend...

Question a very high-powered ....
Term - but, given Saturn's distance from the sun, would the rings look that bright with the naked at Cassini video, I can see that the rings can be seen to orbit Saturn at a pretty good speed.

Last night the seeing was great although it was a cold 10F. Using my 90mm f11 refractor I first checked out Jupiter, and then Mars. I wasn't that impressed with either of them. Jupiter was a big white ball with 4 moons. Mars was a big red ball. But I ...

If you could see detail on Saturn, you should be able to make out some on Jupiter.

Why does Saturn have rings rather than, say, an orbitting sphere of
asteroids and rubble?
Maybe the gravity of Saturn is more intense at its equator.

Saturn rings must have come from a comet that came apart when captured
by Saturn gravity those moons is why the rings look that
way, Mark!
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rings_of_SaturnOn ....
It will become round.

Sure, for a while.
They are stable there, since Saturn is the most massive, close object
that the rings have to deal with.
