A friend of mine likes ripping DVDs to his Mac. He’s currently on an ancient machine, and is about to upgrade to either a MacBook Pro or an iMac.
Just wondering if any of the Mac DVD ripping software will rip faster on the iMac (thanks to its four cores...

It's a two-step process, but I haven't found a simple encoder that supports removing... .

I have a DVD that I'd like to watch on my iPod touch. Can I use normal PC ripping software or is there something special I need to do to get iTunes to sync it to my iPod?

Then I drag it into iTunes.
Protection and Handbrake to rip it to an iPhone compatible size and format.

I am trying to rip an asx stream through winamp (at present) on Windows XP (or Vista if necessary) using stream ripper, however it complains I have an Invalid URL (though the stream itself plays).
I am not interested in one of the many products available...

What software (on windows) do I need (and what is best) to rip subtitles from DVD's, so they are stored in a separate file, that can be used with vobsub or similar?

I used SubRip ..
You can download subrip.
SubRip is nice little tool that allows us to convert imagemap-only subtitles that are on DVD discs into pure text format, which will take only couple of kilobytes of space after completed .

I want to buy several live music DVDs, but I also want to be able to put the music in my playlists. It seems ridiculous that I should also have to buy the Live CD version. Is it legal (particularly under Australian law) to rip the audio?
